A postaccident engine start and run up revealed no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have prevented normal operation. Investigators determined the pilot likely became distracted by the unsecured engine cowl, and during the climbing left turn the airplane slowed to near stall speed and exceeded its critical angle of attack.
The NTSB determined the probable cause was an aerodynamic stall and loss of control, with the unsecured engine cowl contributing to the accident.

On February 28, 2021, a Luscombe 8E crashed shortly after takeoff near Jupiter, Florida. Video of the departure showed the airplane lift off normally before leveling about 30 feet above the runway. As it passed the camera, the left engine cowl could be seen open and flapping in flight. The airplane then continued down the runway, began climbing again, rocked its wings, and turned left before impacting trees and terrain beyond the departure end. One pilot was fatally injured and the pilot rated passenger was seriously injured.

What is that “cartridge” in a fighter jet canopy? 👀
In jets like the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon, you might notice a line or small system embedded in the canopy.
That’s part of the ejection system.
When the pilot ejects:
💥 An explosive cartridge activates
🪟 It either shatters or fractures the canopy
🚀 The ejection seat fires in milliseconds
This system is often called a canopy fracturing system or uses a Miniature Detonation Cord (MDC).
Why is it needed?
⚠️ Without breaking the canopy, the pilot could hit it during ejection
⏱️ Everything happens in less than a second
Explosive.
Precise.
Life-saving.
Because in emergencies…
there’s no time for doors.
