Kent's meningitis outbreak is deeply unusual and defies easy explanation, according to our health and science correspondent. More here: bbc.in/4smkWCr

WARNING: Surgical masks do not protect you from an airborne pathogen! Meningitus B can be carried on exhaled aerosol. Meaning if you want any protection, wear a respirator. If you are in Kent, mask up PROPERLY, and protect yourself (and others)!! @BBCNews

You know what frightens me... even mild SARS-CoV-2 infections can trigger direct myocardial injury, lasting endothelial damage, persistent inflammation, and a prothrombotic state. This raises the long-term risk of heart attack, heart failure, stroke, arrhythmias, and clots—often by around 1.5–2× (and higher in severe cases) for years afterward. Each reinfection can compound this cumulative cardiovascular burden, heightening Long COVID risks and making every exposure a potential step closer to accelerated or lifelong heart disease vulnerability, though vaccination can lower the risks but does not erase them! #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections

Another study conducted at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge showed that air filters worked their magic & removed almost all trace of airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus… …even on a Covid ward where the air would have been thick with infectious viral particles. cuh.nhs.uk/news/air-filte…

It's one of those charts that just blows my mind. You're baffled why people are sick all the time? You're baffled why healthcare is struggling? Repeat Covid infections weakened you. It's not rocket science. I mean, the shape of that graph is, but the science isn't.

1/ If I hear one more public official call indoor air filters a "band-aid," I'm going to explode! It's so logical, yet so readily dismissed. Filtering indoor air should be as standard as filtering water. Full stop. 🧵
