If you are engaging in #cognitivedissonance by intermittently wearing a respirator 😷 during this ongoing #SARS2 #pandemic, you are not as noble as you claim to be. Especially, if you post photos & videos of yourself w/o 😀 a respirator at events. Please be consistent. #MaskUp

(btw, his mom wasn't looking for masks bc she's sick, but to wear protectively during travel. genuinely a disgrace better options aren't available in stores)

The people refusing to mask now will not be there for Cubans who get long covid. I doubt their existence will even be acknowledged. To some people, LC will always be a funny disease for chronically online Americans. That is the narrative that hides their lack of solidarity.

stop pretending the exact same people who are saying to wear masks when taking aid to cuba aren’t also consistently saying to wear masks in the US. “you act like this is an uncontacted island” no you just refuse to listen to disabled people

We talked about white fragility and fragile masculinity. I think it's well past time to talk about the fragility of abled people when you mention something like masking and they lose their ever loving shit over it.

@julia_doubleday @earnest_rs Wait until they find out that the reason the government said Covid can't hurt you was to please corporate lobbyists who opposed OSHA Covid regulations that they said were necessary to protect against a grave danger in the workplace. Will they ever get it? x.com/HughThunkIt/st…

Biden originally promised a multi-layered approach to containing Covid, featuring mask mandates, free testing, and vaccinations, as well as OSHA Covid protections for frontline workers. That was a popular pitch, which he tested with polling. It differentiated him from Trump. /2

Like bro I don’t like wearing masks either I just have to do it because of reality . The last time I caught COVID I developed a severe migraine disorder, lost my career, became homebound, have a wheelchair now and have a shower chair. Like….it just is what it is

additionally, what’s typically seen as “likable acceptable popular” is filtered through lenses of bias bigotry and social norms dictated by capitalistic, racist, misogynistic, ableist, homophobic brainwashing. which is the point.

in the same way that being nice doesn’t always mean kind. and being truly kind isn’t always nice.

many would rather be seen as a good likable person than actually do the work required to live by their supposed morals. the second social friction, inconvenience, sacrifice, discomfort etc comes into play a lot of people abandon all the things they claim to believe in.

there is a difference between being a good person and being likable. you can be both certainly. but being likable doesn’t always mean you have morals or integrity. and being a good person sometimes means having the courage to be disliked.

Going to an island with dangerously overstrained medical resources without a thought about how to not put extra strain on it isn't principled Participating in eugenics is not principled Being willing to kill and disable the working class is not principled

the relief convoy to Cuba was planned and announced with ample time for concerns to be raised and critique to be given. it’s kinda weird to now start up with “OMG you guys can bring DISEASES!!!” when comrades are already there, or on the way. hateration is not principled.

I have admiration for everyone on this convoy. The failure to consider the disabled or preventing disability is a failure of the socialist movement writ large. This critique has been made for decades, but especially in the last 6 years. We get dismissed every time.

Respectfully comrade, we’re 6 years out from a pandemic. We all know how Covid is transmitted and how it’s prevented. As socialists, preventing the spread of illness should be a priority considering Cuban health infrastructures are collapsing. It’s not hard.

Droplet & close-contact transmission place responsibility on the individual to manage their own risk. Aerosol transmission shifts responsibility toward institutions to ensure clean, safe air. Hence the 'officials' denying covid/meningitis is airborne. (It's all about the dosh)
