You make decisions knowing someone will be unhappy no matter what you choose. You deal with pressure from the state, the board, parents, and staff often all at the same time. You handle safety issues, discipline, staffing shortages, budgets, tough conversations, and shifting mandates. Most of it happens behind the scenes, where no one ever sees the weight you carry. And still, you show up. You keep leading. You keep trying to support teachers and keep things moving in a job that asks more than most people realize. Improve yourself to make others better.

Principals, stock up on Post-it notes for fall! When you visit classrooms, leave a post-it note on their desk telling them how lucky their students are to have them & share something you learned or enjoyed about the visit. I call them "Post-its of Praise"

Leaders' actions matter.

Leaders don't have to remember what it was like to be a teacher if they spend enough time in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, bus line, and more. Compassion is about being present and engaged where it matters most.
