Closing Black Studies while placing Black staff at risk of redundancy is more than a budget cut, it reflects the same colonial mindset that sidelines Black histories, voices, & scholarship when they become inconvenient. Stand with BCU staff and students & sign the petition.
Kehinde Andrews@kehinde_andrews

Birmingham City University urged not to axe Black Studies MA and target 5 Black members of staff for redundancy. “In the US there is an attack on Black intellectual thought, in the UK there is so little in higher ed that the problem is erasure" theguardian.com/education/2026…

Reform UK is not the patriotic alternative to the corrupt political elite which sold you out. The Reform UK funders I have found have two things in common: they all have businesses based in Tax Havens, and they all funded the Conservative Party.

Nigel Farage has managed to conn millions of people by playing on their bigotry and racism. Every single PM prior to him has promised to “cut migration” or “stop the boats” or “cut net migration” All buzzwords. What he’s not telling you is most migrants come over and do low paid low skilled jobs which the corporate elite need for exploitative labour to get rich of their hard work. In the 70’s Margaret Thatcher attacked the workers unions and broke them apart and took away more and more workers protection rights which led to more and more reduced wages. Now native Brits generally don’t want to do these jobs like working on farms, care industries etc. But the migrants are happy to fill that void because many come from literally the worst conditions war torn countries etc. Nigel Farage I guarantee will not be allowed to “keep his promises” because his bosses won’t allow that because it will eat into their profits! You’ve all been played.

To every student affected by exam cancellations in the Middle East, your effort counts, your progress matters, and your future is still bright. This is just one chapter, not the whole story. Let's keep it going 💪🏾.

Sorry, we've just lived through over 2 years of witnessing a livestreamed genocide, funded and supported by the West with money, weapons, and rhetoric. We've not been able to stop the suffering. But in our helpless state, we told ourselves that we'll never let people like you feign righteousness about oppression ever again. So you're not doing this ever again. We're calling out your BS. Hypocrite.
J.K. Rowling@jk_rowling

If you claim to support human rights yet can’t bring yourself to show solidarity with those fighting for their liberty in Iran, you’ve revealed yourself. You don’t give a damn about people being oppressed and brutalised so long as it’s being done by the enemies of your enemies.

Today we remember a hardworking, well respected head teacher, Ruth Perry, who is very much missed. Ofsted’s new framework does not address the harm inherent in a grades-based schools accountability system, and it does not address significant risks to staff wellbeing and safety. We call for a new system that is supportive, effective and fair – one that will support school leaders, not punish them.

The problem is cosmetic surgery and dental work is too expensive here in the UK. A root canal is £1.5k and braces are up to £8k Brits are being FLEECED by private dentists and Dr's in the UK. Turkey etc offer exceptional work for a third of the cost here.
Good Morning Britain@GMB

As more Brits turn to social media for advice on cut-price cosmetic surgeries abroad, the government is enlisting the help of medical experts on TikTok to warn about the dangers of these procedures going wrong. Sara Platt suffered a botched surgery in Turkey that left her badly infected and in excruciating pain. @emma__sc0tt has her story, and a warning there are images of her injuries in this report.

@narindertweets @bbcstrictly Completely hit the nail on the head there. You can literally be a Nazi Facist and there are no questions asked. But a brown or black woman who thinks for herself? Never! Only the ones whose mind has been colonised.

Apparently I was deemed too controversial for @bbcstrictly because they only hire quiet brown and black women that fit in a box. But you can be a white man AND be controversial and you'll be hired on the spot! Hello Thomas Skinner!! #BBCStrictly your unconscious bias and prejudicial views against British brown women is disgraceful.

I’m no stranger to arrests under nonsensical terror laws. But yesterday was something else. Under the statue of Gandhi in Parliament Square, I was one of 474 silent protesters arrested by an army of police. It must have been the largest mass terrorism-related arrest in British history. It was an honour to be part of it. The crime: holding a placard which begins with the words: “I oppose genocide…” All of this to placate the genocidal state of #Israel as it exterminates the people of #Gaza.

Dancer Danni Perry raised a Palestine flag during their curtain call at the Royal Opera House, risking their career to speak out for Gaza: “I chose to do my demonstration during my curtain call, a moment for myself. I chose to make it about something bigger than me.” They say the theatre industry has been largely silent: “I have felt quite alone trying to have these conversations with others in the industry. As artists, we are lucky enough to have these platforms that reach huge audiences.” Director Oliver Mears allegedly told them: “You will never work at the opera house again.” Their answer? “I don’t give a flying f**k.”

@NevSponge7 I really hate such petty ad homs when people don’t like what’s said. You like Strickland and you agree with what he says, but does that give you the right to say that to me? Address the facts said, don’t insult the questioner because you can’t. So poor.

So bang on, Sam Strickland doesn't allow criticism. It's a huge straw man. Every mainstream school has exactly the same holidays. Some choose to distribute them differently through the year. He just wants to bang on about how he would like the easiest life possible. Boring.

Using 'racism' as a catch-all phrase for every expression of hate & co-opting it for White people is White privilege personified. Stop centring White Jews in the racism experienced by Black people. Conflating religion with race. When White Jews are racist to Black/Brown Jews that's racism. When White, Black & Brown Jews experience hate BECAUSE they are Jews that's Antisemitism. When White Muslims are racist to Black/Brown Muslims that's racism. When White, Black & Brown Muslims experience hate BECAUSE they are Muslims that's Islamophobia. Racism isn't 'prejudice' - it's a racial power construct that only White people benefit from and Black/Brown people persecuted by. Antisemitism, Islamophobia & Misogyny aren't racism - all are equally heinous, co-exist & intersect. These are NOT different forms of racism, these are distinct expressions of hate. Stop using 'racism' as a catch all phrase. Diane Abbott is spot on that our lived experiences of hate differs.
