“I had zero expectations of surviving this year”
Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda reflected on the harsh reality of Gaza as 2026 starts.
Recalling being trapped between Israeli tanks in west Gaza City, she faced imminent death, yet survived, emerging as a witness to the ongoing genocide.
Her New Year’s message carries both the weight of survival and the urgent call for justice: she highlighted the struggle of one million Palestinians now living in tents, the ongoing Israeli siege that blocks essential food and medicine, and the occupation of more than 60% of Gaza’s land.
Owda called for the reopening of borders, the end of the slow genocide, and the rebuilding of Gaza through Palestinian resilience, urging the world not to forgive or forget the complicity that allows these crimes to continue.
