On Saturday, in the early hours of the morning, my cousin brother who was also my seatmate in senior secondary school was murdered in his own home by five officers of the Nigerian Army. I was one of the first people to respond to the scene, and everything I am about to state is true. The officers arrived at his residence under the guise of a patrol, claiming they suspected a thief was in the compound. One of them scaled the fence over a barbed wire to open the gate for the rest. Once inside, they forcefully attempted to gain access to his room. In doing so, they discharged two shots, one of which was a headshot that pierced through the door and killed him instantly. The evidence at the scene was undeniable three bullet holes(two on the door and the killing shot that went through his head to the wall) and blood splattered across the wall. He was 24 years old, a graduate of Civil Engineering, and full of promise. Three of his siblings were present in the house that night, sleeping upstairs, and they are live witnesses to what happened. After committing this act, the officers called the police themselves, reporting that they had killed someone they had “mistakenly” suspected to be a thief. What followed made matters worse. They tampered with the scene by summoning vigilantes who cleaned up the pool of blood. All pictorial evidence is currently in the possession of the police, who have refused to release the statements of the officers involved, only confirming that the soldiers reported the killing as a mistake. It is a painful and devastating reality that the very people entrusted with our protection are now killing us in the comfort of our own homes. We demand that the @hqnigerianarmy identify and hold these five officers accountable, and that justice be delivered without delay.

Igala Girl 💛@Hassypinky

The young man in this picture is DĘAD! Until his untimely death, he was a serving NYSC corps member. In his own room at Shagari Quarters, Deidei, Abuja, officers from the @HQNigerianArmy shōt and blew up his hęad claiming it was a “mistake.” Late Samad was not a criminal. He was simply serving his fatherland, only to be murdered by those paid to protect him. We demand that the military hierarchy immediately investigate this incident, punish the officers involved, and ensure his family gets justice! May this not happen to any of us. #JusticeForSamad #NYSC

And by the way, I applied for NELFUND in my final year and it really helped in clearing some of my bills. Thank you @NELFUND Raise am @q_mesioye

Amid the flood of felicitations following my convocation as Overall Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, I find it necessary to address the stir around my NELFUND appreciation post. I accept the praise, life changing offers and the backlash, in good faith. Still, it is only fair to set the record straight. I hail from a village in Osun State, raised in a modest family of five. I attended public primary and secondary schools, not by choice, but because even the most inexpensive private schools were beyond our means. Even then, survival itself; food and clothing was a daily struggle. I walked miles to school each morning, while my parents laboured as jacks-of-all-trades to make ends meet. For nine defining years before I entered university, we lived within sight of basic amenities yet beyond our reach, no electricity, no television; just lanterns and candles. Against these odds, I earned a scholarship and now this distinction. In my third year, a coursemate’s father, someone I had once tutored academically, gifted me my first smartphone which I am still using till now. On several occasions, lecturers, moved by quiet compassion, provided me with clothing. There are many other instances, too numerous to recount. So, I say this plainly, not all of us are born with a silver spoon. Some of us climbed the ladder by holding on to every rung of legitimate support we could find. As an engineering student aspiring to make academic history, should I resort myself to blaming my family’s financial situation for my inability to afford fees and essentials like a reliable smartphone or laptop needed for skills and certifications? For me personally, NELFUND was not incidental; it was instrumental and to acknowledge what helped one’s journey is neither propaganda nor misplaced allegiance. It is simply an act of appreciation. Thank you @NELFUND and everyone that contributed to this success! Greatness awaits all of Us.

@AskMichaelTaiwo You can't measure BGS with the second criteria objectively. it's very subjective as we can have someone with 4.0 CGPA who has even being the SUG President of the university and has probably represented the school in international competitions too.. What about that Sir?

Should BGS be based on grades only! Take for instance. We have two students. Student A and Student B. Student A finished with a 4.94 CGPA. Topped his class. Didn’t do anything other than book. Student B finished with a 4.90. Second best. Represented his department in competitions. Tutored others consistently. Who is your BGS?

This post has reached a lot of people with different comments and reactions, and I feel my intention wasn’t fully understood, it even got misinterpreted. It’s important I set the record straight now, so in the future no one paints me as an hater or someone bitter, I myself hopes to achieve something huge like what Tunde is doing. If I could achieve even half of it, I’d consider my life well fulfilled. Based off a few comments, I received backlash for supposedly hating on @Tunde_OD , with some calling me bitter. Let me be clear: I am not hating on @Tunde_OD . In fact, I respect him a lot for everything he’s done with @chessinslums . I still remember making a post back in 2022 with my fila (Yoruba cap) on the chessboard, jokingly asking him to take me out of the slum/trenches. It was pure sarcasm, a light joke. Lichess is just an online game thing, even though I was physically in the museum in January, as I mentioned in the post I quoted. For the people celebrating my post, maybe because of recent issues with @Tunde_OD around politics or not. Please and please, I’m not part of that. I will not join in undermining what Tunde has done and is still doing. Whatever issue you have with him, count me out! @Tunde_OD , you know this already, but let me say it again: You’re a STAR, Egbon! What you’ve done is unimaginable and I pray you get strength to even do more. Keep shining and keep going! Who knows, if you’re in Europe this summer, we should link up for a proper chit-chat over a game of chess 😅 Thanks!
