@EddieComeaux @UCLALawReview @DrUJayakumar It is interesting to see this system continue to play out these social advantages and have racial preferences in intercollegiate athletics admissions. However, these racial and financial advantages are still being normalized and covered up. Ignoring transparency and favoritism.

@hkongg18 @abhornUCRedu I agree with you about the unequal acceptance rates comparison. Financial stability plays a big role in the admissions process that a lot of people of color can't afford. Institutions need to become more inclusive going forward when it comes to diversity. @KatryaLy #UCR50

Students of color are already being accepted at unequal rates in comparison to white students. AxE favors students who are more financially stable. How is this fair to students of color? #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

College institutions and their values on admissions shows their priorities of social advantages. Schools are still giving more opportunities towards white students while their students of color are still struggling to get equal opportunities and support. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@rhan0405 @KatryaLy I agree with you about the NCAA control on student-athletes and intercollegiate athletics as a whole. Their business and profit business practices are concerning because it has a great impact on the rights of athletes. @KatryaLy #UCR50

NCAA control of collegiate athletes affects the vulnerability of the impact of college sports business practices that take away their rights as students, athletes, and a human being. Their general rights are being impacted, which questions NCAA authority. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

This complex situation of universities being able to profit off their student-athletes but these same athletes have to deal with complicated restrictions when it comes to marketing themselves. This raises concern about the overall mission of universities. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@Zadiie_ @KatryaLy I agree with you that Title IX built a ground to advocate for women in athletics. The # of male to female coaches is concerning because it undermines the equity Title IX was meant to implement. There is still poor awareness and accountability that continues. @KatryaLy #UCR50

Title IX has benefited women in some ways, but it obviously hasn't been enforced enough and to its full extent because there is still a higher number of male head coaches than female, even in women's teams. After so many years there should be more of a change. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Title IX is just the beginning of gender equality in intercollegiate athletics. For decades women had to advocate for fair opportunities to be accepted alongside men. Even through the passing of Title IX, women are still having to defend their roles in athletics. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@lancelotzhao123 @abhornUCRedu I agree that diversity is important to athletic departments. A diverse team from administrators, coaches, and student-athletes will play a positive role in their environment. The variety of different perspectives will be motivating to their community as well. @KatryaLy #UCR50

College athletic departments should have more diversity. Diverse coaches or athletes can give students more motivation. At the same time, it can also provide more targeted help to the team. But do universities actually have these diversification conditions?#UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

The campus racial climate is important to the college experience. The inclusion of equal opportunities, inclusive teams/departments, and representation for student-athletes will help them understand their values and be respected for their racial identity. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@halba011 @abhornUCRedu I definitely understand this concern and it's unfortunate seeing student-athletes endure such stereotypes. Their mental health needs more attention and support. There needs to be better resources that can help prevent any negative outcomes like substance abuse. @KatryaLy #UCR50

It is disappointing to read how stereotyped student athletes are especially considering all the stress they endure. There should be a bigger advocacy towards their mental health as it can push young minds towards substance abuse. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

The immense pressure student-athletes endure shouldn't be underestimated. The constant questioning of their skills and abilities becomes incredibly overwhelming. Educators and coaches need to become more aware and supportive to create positive influences. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@BrookeTenney5 @TA_ED50 I agree with you that it's important to have these regulations for athletes, as it helps them balance. I also hope there is more academic support that is offered to these athletes, so they are still able to actively learn while being committed to their sport. @KatryaLy #UCR50

Athletes go to university to join sports in which they decide it's best to major in something that isn't work heavy. Though, I empathize with the athletes who are unable to major in their preferred field because of sports, lack of academic support, and time. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@xDaisy_Roman_x @KatryaLy I agree there should be a fair balance when it comes to compensation for coaches. Coaches seemed to be paid by popularity instead of their performance and contribution to help train their athletes. Coaches also should play a part in their education just as much. @KatryaLy #UCR50

I believe that coaches should be paid based on how well they perform on teaching their athletic students. The wages for intercollegiate coaches is unfair. Especially when the student aren’t gaining any positive feedback or education. Coaches only benefit. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

I see why sports/coaches are receiving higher pay as of revenue, plus how athletic oriented America is. Yet, there needs to be a way to distribute equal pay when it comes to college professors. They have just enough significance towards ALL students' education. @KatryaLy #UCR50

@galsam_12 @abhornUCRedu I agree with you that it's confusing why schools tie funding to the success of sports. Schools should be able to diversify their funding to support the sports community regardless of popularity. @KatryaLy #UCR50

It’s interesting how schools require there to be an extensive amount of sports in one community in order for them to receive funding. You would think that with the already present money issues, school systems would make it easier to start and develop sports. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

Paul Robeson’s experience is the harsh reality of racial segregation in the early 20th century in American sports. He was a Black scholar and football player who faced violence from teammates because of his race. His journey is the struggle of racial equality. @KatryaLy #UCR50
