After three decades as a knee surgeon, I can say this with confidence…. many people are far more limited by the story their MRI report tells them than by the condition of their meniscus or articulation cartilage.

Screws removed from the plate and then antegrade nail. Decided to protect whole bone. Bit more hold in the proximal plate or exchanging it for a longer one perhaps desirable, but we got there. Patient did very well.

Plate could certainly have been longer and the inevitable happened only 8 weeks after fixation. No signs of infection. Options? Fairly fit elderly female patient. 😳 #stressriser #distalfemurfracture

Thanks to all who engaged with the last post. Really interesting that no obvious consensus. Had I been treating then I think likely a nail/plate combo but not involved until much later in the story. Here’s what was done. Comments welcome. #periprostheticfracture

Administration of COX-2 NSAIDs in chronically anticoagulated patients undergoing TKA was not associated with increased transfusions or readmissions. They had a lower risk of MUA and reduced opioid consumption at 90d postop. arthroplastyjournal.org/article/S0883-…

No single surgical approach for TKA consistently outperforms others regarding ROM, PROMs, and reoperation rates. However, a small number of studies demonstrated potential benefits with the subvastus, midvastus, and mini medial parapatellar approaches. arthroplastyjournal.org/article/S0883-…

Patients undergoing THA can expect high return rates and satisfaction with athletic endeavors. Surgical approach generally does not affect return-to-sport outcomes after THA. Most patients, regardless of approach, resumed or exceeded preop activity. arthroplastyjournal.org/article/S0883-…

There is no clinical advantage of routine patellar resurfacing at 5yr f/u. Resurfacing may reduce anterior knee pain, it also introduces risks such as fracture and maltracking. These findings support a more selective approach. arthroplastyjournal.org/article/S0883-…
