I’m aware of the controversy of posting these two pictures alone or together right now from inside Damascus, Syria. Today, Syrians for the first time in at least over a decade are able to return to our homeland, and (for now, because we are not fortune tellers 🪄) to just exist without fear, to just be ordinary Syrian citizens who have not committed any sectarian war crimes against anyone else. Sectarianism has existed in Syria’s modern history (and in the entire region) for a long time whether we like it or not, and has been implemented into people’s brains subconsciously or consciously. However today, after everything we have endured and experienced under the fallen Assad tyranny, we all collectively want a Syria that is for ALL Syrians, and a Syria that prosecutes ALL war criminals and holds them accountable. The road is long and difficult, but I want to believe in a free Syria and I want us to believe and dream of a beautiful country, that can finally be ours—for the people. Happy holidays from a free Damascus.
