A gallon of jet fuel actually contains about 12kWh of usable energy given the 70% losses in converting that chemical energy to turn the turbine. @shellenberger knows this, but intentionally misleads. Of course, fuel is still lighter than a battery. But, a battery can be reused for thousands of cycles. Fuel is burned once and then has to be refilled. How much energy to extract, refine, and transport that fuel to where you need it?

The best being the environmental impact, the rest is "soul of art" arguments that are meaningless in most cases.
