It will cost more than R1 billion to repair damaged municipal and provincial infrastructure in the Garden Route District. Meiringspoort alone is estimated to cost R500 million to rebuild. South Africa has lost a legend. Abdullah Ibrahim represented everything that makes South Africa and the Western Cape so remarkable. His music told the story of our unique cultural diversity and past. This inimitable talent will be sorely missed, and dearly remembered.

Today, we bid farewell to H.E Mr @AJPhillipson , UK High Commissioner to SA, as his tour of duty comes to an end. H.E Mr. Phillipson has represented his nation with the tenacity required to advance inclusive growth, job creation and open trade between both regions. It has been a privilege to work alongside him for the last five years. The Western Cape in partnership with the Consul General-Cape Town and High Commission in Pretoria, have enjoyed warm, mature and cordial relations. His contributions to strengthening the diplomatic relations between South Africa and the UK at large and the Western Cape specifically will be deeply missed. We extend our best wishes to His Excellency for the future and thank him for serving with dedication and distincton.

I've been meeting with @Eskom_SA management every morning for the past several weeks to ensure restoration efforts stay on track and that our residents remain the priority. Steady progress is being made. To every resident still without power since the May storms - we hear you and we apologise for the inconvenience. ✅ Restored ahead of schedule: Nature's Valley, Covie, Fisanthoek & Brackenhill 🔧 Work in progress Harkerville, Klein Bavaria & Buffelsnek - teams navigating stolen conductors, damaged infrastructure and mountainous terrain, in some cases carrying poles by hand. 📅 Estimated restoration dates: 19 June - Noordhoek (West Coast) 22 June - Keurbooms 24 June - Witzenberg (ahead of original 26 June estimate) 25 June - Garden Route remaining areas To every resident still waiting - we hear you, and we are not done.💙 A heartfelt thank you to every recovery team member working under difficult conditions, day after day, to restore power to our communities. 🙏
