Today, @coreyhoganyyc, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced a new investment of $2.3 million into @WesternArchrib's new mass timber mill in Sturgeon County.
This investment will go to advancing innovation and expanding Western Archrib’s production capacity, ultimately increasing supply for housing and other critical infrastructure. We applaud the federal government for taking action to increase competitiveness and strengthen Alberta’s forest industry.

Wood-first policies are proven catalysts for economic growth in the forest industry and the regions it supports.
Our forest industry plays a direct role in supporting over 70 communities in Alberta. We can grow local economies by prioritizing modern wood solutions, growing domestic demand, and strengthening our markets.
At our conference last fall, Andre Lema from @WesternArchrib talked about how a wood-first policy could benefit Alberta.

2026 Mode: Activated.
What does that mean for us? We’ll be working harder than ever for Alberta’s forest sector to:
📃Find trade solutions with our largest trading partner
👷Build in Canada with Alberta wood
🛑Reduce red tape and duplication of regulatory processes
🌐Increase market diversification
We look to build upon the gains of 2025 and are excited to get to work on strengthening Alberta’s forest industry in 2026!

The tariffs and duties from our largest trading partner continue to put the livelihoods of 30,000 hard-working Albertans at risk, and people on both sides of the border are experiencing higher prices and increased uncertainty.
We need to continue prioritizing building with Alberta wood products and streamlining regulatory processes at home, and ultimately establishing a trade agreement in order to protect and create growth in our sector.
While governments have taken a step in the right direction, this call for action remains as we look into the new year.

Premier Danielle Smith said it best at our annual conference that market stability is the ultimate goal for our sector.
Our products are second to none in terms of quality and availability to our largest trading partners. We appreciate our governments continually amplifying this message as we work toward a solution and solidify a trade agreement with the United States.

As we look to resolve Canada's housing crisis, forest products are an integral part of that answer.
Using Canadian wood solutions like light-frame and mass timber not only helps build more homes for Canadians, but it also means a lower carbon footprint and supports growth in our forest industry.
With wood, we can continue building more — bigger and better.
