Nobody in the ATLA world was born with the ability to just somehow make fire, water, earth, or air out of the palm of their hand without any explanation. That ability has to come from somewhere.
Because otherwise, nonbenders should not exist in ATLA.

Pretty sure combustion bending was always supposed to be a cool mysterious ritualistic thing that takes away your fire bending in exchange for combustion bending, but the writers of Korra just stupid. I don’t care if it’s canon now, it’s just a really dumb decision because it makes combustion bending so much less interesting and special.
Combustion bending said something silently really well, showing off that the fire nation is a place with the resources and amoral philosophy to twist bending in that manner. Other nations take a shitload of pride in their bending, meanwhile the fire nation is principally concerned with power above all else, hence why they deviated so hard from the true meaning for fire bending taught to them by the dragons.

One thing I didn't like about TLOK was the Avatar State retcons. The OG was a combination of every previous life boosting the current avatar, and that got thrown out to be Raava juice.
If the cycle restarted, Korra shouldn't have an Avatar state. And Pavi's should be weak af lol

Finally someone said it. The Fire Nation has almost 0 japanese influence when it comes to its aesthetics, it's mainly chinese with southeast asian influences here and there, and native american if you count the Sun Warriors as Fire Nation
