This might be based on my own nostalgia, but isn't half the fun of Oblivion watching a bunch of hilarious-looking NPCs with one of three potential voice actors interact with dysfunctional gameplay systems? If this is removed, I fear so too will the soul of Oblivion will be lost.

To oversimplify an explanation, against strong players we expect them to adjust. And we try to adjust ahead of them. With weaker players, if something is working, keep doing it. And try the simple, fundamental things first. Don’t be overly creative if you don’t need to.

One of the things that always stuck in my head was a conversation Mike Ross and Gootecks had with Renic where he was complaining about losing to players weaker than him and Mike Ross told him, “You forgot how to fight scrubs.”

this is easy and applicable to virtually every FG, controlling players that have ass gameplay is an entirely different skillset than understanding how to properly fight a competent experienced player. modern FGs leave a lot of room on the table to be ass and still get some wins.
