Great news that Ukraine has come to an agreement with the US on a ceasefire and congratulations to all negotiators - including the Saudi hosts. Under these terms Ukraine can have a prosperous future as a free sovereign and independent country. They have the prospect of a long term economic partnership with the most powerful country on earth, backed up by a European reassurance force in Ukraine, led by Britain and France. The Ukrainians have proved that they can make peace. Now it is up to the Kremlin to sign up to the Trump plan - or face the consequences. If Putin refuses we will know that he is not serious about peace and never was.

I remember perfectly well how the Russian army was stationed near Kiev and Zelensky negotiated peace in Turkey in exchange for the withdrawal of Russian troops. Then a British poodle visited him and he forgot about the world.

One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to already know that Putin is not serious about peace and never was. He broke 25 ceasefires. He doesn't want peace. He wants Ukraine. But sure, let's play this game for Trump’s sake. Trump will eventually figure it out for himself. Meanwhile, innocent Ukrainians are dying…

If putin wants sanctions lifted to agree to cease fire then this will be a stumbling block for Ukraine. There can be zero sanctions relief to Russia until full security plans are in place. Even then they shouldnt be lifted until Russia has paid for all the damage caused. Otherwise Putin will just rearm faster and reinvade.
