@John_Cyrano “Hey DM, does my character know what trolls are vulnerable to?” Not sure why this is hard

Expecting a D&D player to pretend he doesn't know that trolls are vulnerable to fire and acid just because his character hasn't encountered them before is from the same story game font as fudged dice rolls and big bads.

@RRollplaying High charisma character, only speaks common fluently but manages to convince everyone else he speak draconic because he took a semester in it, now he has to parlay with the dragon who is about to raze the town…the only thing he can say in draconic is “where is the library?”

I feel like DnD characters should be able to know like a few phrases in a bunch languages as opposed to being completely fluent in a few. Like imagine only one person in the party *kind of* knows celestial, and they roll low on a language check and accidentally insult the solar.
