We mourn all the soldiers and sailors who have given their lives in the line of duty, but it is especially painful when the loss is felt so close to home. Sgt. Benjamin Pennington, 26, of Fort Carson died from injuries sustained in an Iranian attack while serving our country. He served with the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade and was wounded in the March 1 attack on U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia. My thoughts are with his family, his fellow soldiers at Fort Carson, and all who are mourning this loss. We owe a profound debt to those who serve. May he rest in peace. 🇺🇸

Jeff Hurd’s vote against the Iran War Powers Resolution and the failure of the resolution to pass is a prime example of congress forfeiting its constitutional duty. As the Iran War enters its sixth day, the cost of this conflict is no longer theoretical. Six American service members have died as of writing this and with insiders saying the war may last until September this toll will rise. This is a war of choice, launched without the consent or desire of the American people. Yet, when given the chance to demand oversight and stop this reckless escalation, Jeff Hurd chose to remain complicit in this illegal action. The price of this war will not only be measured in lives lost, but the continuing increase of the cost of living. The people who can least afford it are now going to be faced with increased costs and soaring gas prices while the global economy descends towards turmoil. We cannot allow this unauthorized escalation to spiral into a global catastrophe while Jeff Hurd stands by and does nothing.
