@leilavclark Hook it up with a suitable driver (sth like feldmann-led.de/en/power-suppl… for Europeans). This gives you relatively stylish looking lamps with heat dissipation built in. I used 2.5m aluminum profiles from my local hardware store. Sorry for the European links and units :D

I wrote about extreme residential lighting, or way too much about LEDs! > The indoors is pretty great. It’s climate-controlled, computer-friendly and comfortable. Unfortunately, it’s often not bright enough. link in reply👇

I found the book particularly fascinating because it is from 1973, but still extremely timely. That helps a lot to identify which principles are timeless and independent of technology

If you want to get better at managing time, I recommend a 1973 book: goodreads.com/book/show/1801… It helped me a lot for my PhD and in life. My main take-aways: 1. Ask yourself: what is the best use of your time right now? 2. Focus on doing the right thing rather than efficiency

There are two kinds of problems: strong-link problems and weak-link problems. Weak-link: quality depends on how good the *worst* things are Strong-link: quality depends on how good the *best* things are

We propose a new approach to make this efficient + easy: figure out what to do + when to do it automatically, based on the application's signals. This worked quite well in our experiments: "AdaPS" was efficient without any tuning and also faster than existing approaches.

Some approaches can be efficient (the orange "NuPS" in the plot), but they are complex to use: you need to make the right configuration choices, and that may require running training over and over until you find a good configuration. Tedious!

The preprint of our new paper is out: arxiv.org/abs/2206.00470. We still work on efficient distributed machine learning. Specifically, on the component that manages model parameters among the cluster nodes. We ask: how can this component be both efficient and easy to use?

Yep. And add "pension system" to the screw list
Christian Odendahl@COdendahl

#Germany is seriously debating a compulsory national service for the young. Nothing quite says "the boomers are in charge now" like screwing the young on climate change, housing, Covid and now demanding they take a year off to do more for society.

Your daily reminder that @TheOfficialACM still hasn't reversed its ridiculous position that sets it in opposition to all its members (both academic and industrial, because — as ACM keeps telling me — *everyone* wants to read papers and gain knowledge).
Shriram Krishnamurthi (primary: Bluesky)@ShriramKMurthi

Let's keep writing, every day, to @TheOfficialACM to remind them we haven't forgotten their perfidy and aren't going to (nor their bullshit "clarification"). If we stop writing, they're going to think they weathered the storm.

@OlafScholz @FridayForFuture @spdde @SPDSH @klara_geywitz Nein, Herr Scholz.
