In my opinion... the reason JK doesn’t even consider having both is because, in his mind, Kim Dan wouldn’t stay by his side. For us as readers, it’s easy to think that JK just needs to confess his feelings for Kim Dan to remain with him… but for JK, the reality is much more painful. He feels that Kim Dan wouldn’t choose to stay voluntarily, so losing would be the only way to keep him… not letting him go, but rather “holding him in place.”...🍃
The problem with his inner dialogue is that if he chose to lose… like many people want, as a way to prove his love for Kim Dan… it wouldn’t be fair to either of them. First, because JK would spend his entire life feeling that he only lost so Kim Dan would stay… but in doing so, he would have sacrificed the very thing he fought for all his life… the dream that kept him moving forward through such a harsh and cruel reality...🍃🍃
And for us as spectators, it would also be difficult to accept that JK lost to someone who didn’t deserve it… someone who won through unfair means… someone who would carry a title that never truly belonged to them. Meanwhile, JK would have to live forever with the weight of broken dreams… of everything he could have achieved. His dream is to become a legend… and even if that dream no longer fulfills him the way it once did, it’s no secret that this sport was his first love… the force that pushed him to survive.
But if he wins… he loses Kim Dan. He returns to the same life as before… except this time, he loses the new reason that gave his life meaning. Because when his dream became something heavy… something driven only by ambition… Kim Dan entered his life and healed that broken part of him… showing him what life truly means when someone comes into your world and teaches you that there is more than just one dream.🍃🍃
Now, going back to JK’s point of view… it becomes clear that he doesn’t feel he deserves to ask Kim Dan to stay. He’s so used to having only one thing in his life that he can’t even imagine having both. From the outside, it looks like he has everything… wealth, success, power… like he can have anything he wants. But in reality, it’s the opposite. Because of the life he lived, he has always been forced to choose only one thing…He either had his father or victory…either his mother or his dream of becoming a champion… but never both at the same time....🍃
He never learned that it was possible to have both.
And that’s what makes this situation so heartbreaking. Because it reminds us that life isn’t always easy… and it isn’t fair either. It wouldn’t be right for JK to lose… and it wouldn’t be right for Kim Dan to stay out of obligation...🍃
Kim Dan should choose to stay by JK’s side on his own… not because he feels forced, but because he truly wants to. And JK needs to realize, once and for all, that he doesn’t need to hold onto someone who doesn’t want to stay… that he can move forward, become the best champion in the world… and still be surrounded by people who genuinely love and support him...🥺🩶
