@BylineTimes Farage is and has always been an absolute grifter. He gets away with it because our useless media are in the pocket of the right wing and fail to hold him to account.

I’ve seen Prime Minsters dodge questions before. But I’ve never seen one literally and repeatedly just ignore what they’ve been asked. If this is what Starmer’s going to do, what’s the point.

I seem to have upset the @Nigel_Farage fan club - so let me be clear. This man sows hate, lies and division. He is a grifter and a conman. He does not represent the vast majority of Britons. RT if you agree P.s. multiculturalism is great.

@BellaWallerstei @thetimes But the working parent would be entitled to some of those benefits as well, making them better off than the non-worker. It’s not a like for like comparison, are you deliberately obfuscating or do you genuinely not understand?

A single parent with three kids currently gets £20,978 in benefits. Without the two-child cap, it jumps to £24,491 well above what a full-time minimum wage worker takes home - £21,807 (@thetimes). Why work at all if benefits pay more?

@RpsAgainstTrump I have been to the States. Would love to see much more of the country. I also travel to various international paediatric surgery conferences. I have zero intention of travelling to the USA at the moment.

For followers outside the U.S.: with ICE violence in cities across the country and Trump’s insane invasive new visa requirements, has your view of visiting the U.S. changed? Have you canceled a trip?

I’m sick of explaining how people can end up on benefits. I’ll say it again. I had a partner, we had a beautiful family, we could afford our lives. But my partner got sick and died. I was on my own with four kids, 3yr, 5yr, 6yr and 15yrs old. I couldn’t afford childcare, I didn’t have family to help, we were grieving. That’s how we ended up on benefits. Life can be cruel and good for you if you haven’t been through some shit but a lot of us have. All we want is a helping hand, not a punching down. So fuck you to all who judge and don’t know what TF you’re talking about. You’re only ever one tragedy from needing help. I only hope it never happens to you.

Good to hear Starmer call out the conflict of interest for the Shadow Attorney General, and Badenoch’s failure to see that conflict, deal with it and protect UK interests. #PMQs

Taxpayers are funding Motability cars for people on benefits which they can't even afford themselves. In the past, being in the ECHR stopped us fixing this. Under @KemiBadenoch @Conservatives would leave the ECHR and get a grip of Motability.

@BROKENBRITAIN0 If a man has four wives, he is guilty of a crime and very likely to go to prison. Tbf, the bill for that would be a lot higher. You are an idiot or a liar or both.

We need to talk about Reeves new polygamous family benefits 🇬🇧 If a man has 4 wives, and each wife has 4 children, and at least one wife and at least one child from each wife claim disability, the benefit bill comes up to over £250,000❗️ This is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS ⚠️

@robprogressive This is so tedious. 1. Income tax is not the only tax. The poorest pay a higher proportion of total tax 2. Wealth and income are not the same thing 3. The meaningful comparison is how much of the national income to the top 1% have compared to their tax liability.

Everyone cries ‘tax the rich more’, but look at the facts The top 1% now pay 33 % of all income tax The bottom 50% only pay 9% of all income tax A £150k earner pays £53,460 in tax A £25k earner pays just £2,486 in tax It takes 21x £25k earners to contribute was one £150k earner does in tax The problem is not the rich The problem is how much tax is wasted

Let’s be clear what scrapping the two child benefit cap would mean. Families earning their own way (with higher taxes coming) have to budget for how many children they have, making difficult choices. Families relying on the state would get to have as many children as they want.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Rachel Reeves indicates she is looking at scrapping the two-child cap *entirely* 'I don't think a child should be penalised through being in a bigger family for no fault of their own 'We will take action on child poverty. The last Labour government proudly reduced child poverty, and we will reduce child poverty as well'

Taking the think out of tank
David Frost@DavidGHFrost

Some personal (and political) news: I am delighted to have been appointed as the new DG of the @iealondon Institute of Economic Affairs, with effect from January next year. The IEA is a charity and is independent of all political parties. Accordingly I will no longer take the Conservative whip in the House of Lords. I will continue to contribute there, but as a non-affiliated peer. I will not be joining any other party. The IEA is one of Britain’s oldest, greatest, and most pro-freedom think tanks. It is an honour and a privilege to lead the Institute in continuing to make the case for the importance of freedom and free markets in solving Britain's problems. I look forward to doing so.

@RupertLowe10 How exactly do I diagnose and treat a patient who can't tell me what's wrong? Or should I let them die? What about a Brit who falls ill abroad and brings me back their notes. Am I not allowed to get them translated so I know what was done or do I have to guess?

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

We need to wait for the details of today's synagogue attack. But the fact is if you grant concessions to terrorists, and allow them to believe their terror will be rewarded, you incite new terror. Ministers need to reflect on that as they issue their ritualistic condemnations.
