@KKurzNHL I would trade *any* 4th liner for a 1st round pick and a prospect 100/100 times. I know you weren’t arguing against the trade but the Flyers made the right decision even though it was difficult and they’re experiencing some of the pain from it. It still was the right decision.

Much better? No. But 4-5 points better and in the top 3 in the Metro? I'd say yes, and that's just from a hockey player standpoint. The fourth line wouldn't have gone 2 months without a point, for one thing.

Yes, because they were. They overachieved in 2023-24 until the goaltending fell apart, and they were even in a good spot last season before Briere started subtracting. This year's team is better on paper, yet they're coming up small in the most important games. (And no one is suggesting they shouldn't have made the trade, by the way.)

@billmeltzer @jasonmyrt Hey guys. I listened to today’s Flyers Daily and Jason mentioned just moving him to wing at some point. I’m not sure how possible that really is. The team has zero room on wing now and has a lot of wing prospects coming up. Thoughts?

Talked with a Flyers source today. As @jasonmyrt laid out on Flyers Daily, Dvorak's versatility was a significant part of why the org was willing to go 5 years. His lineup spot right now won't necessarily be his spot in a couple years. He can play up/down lineup and can play wing if moved from C. As such, they don't see him blocking anyone long-term. With cap going up each year, they felt the $5.15M was acceptable. Agree with the term or disagree. There's certainly room for debate. But the aforementioned factors were, in fact, part of the strategic calculus.

I lost my dad last night. He was only 68 and it’s a very sad thing. But I wanted to share a happy story about him. On 5/25/91, he was living in Washington Pa. The Pens were playing for their first Cup that night in Minnesota but the cable (not the power, luckily) went out in part of Washington during the game. He was a deejay and owned an enormous amount of speakers. So he set up the speakers on the street and boomed the Mike Lange/Paul Steigerwald radio broadcast, and it started a street party of Pens fans, who were unable to watch the game, listening to them winning the Cup for the first time. He didn’t always get the breaks he wanted out of life, but he made the most out of what he had and wanted nothing more than to make people happy. I think this story illustrates his spirit best.

Something that I think can't be overlooked with the announcement of the new Phantoms' coaching staff is that Riley Armstrong's influence in the organization seems to be growing. Worth keeping in mind as this rebuild continues.

@alimbocl They had the 4th worst record in the NHL last season. They don't have "too many" of anything.

I still don't quite understand how the Flyers didn't figure out a way to keep him. This really shouldn't have been that difficult.

Dobson is a heck of a player and a really good kid, but I'm skeptical whether he has enough jam in the defensive zone to warrant the kind of contract he's likely to get.

Have a story dropping soon for @DailyFaceoff, but one thing I didn't touch on was the PHI goaltending. I do think Jake Allen is a name PHI will look at as a "cheaper option." Would be a decent stop-gap option to tandem w/ Ersson while they figure out what they have in the org.

With @Avalanche out? Means @NHLFlyers 2nd 1st rounder will be between picks #22-25. Which is interesting range. Some fwds with legit ~70 point upside will be there. D? Bit weaker. Hensler, Reid, Boumedienne, Limatov, Fiddler, Aitcheson are 6 potential late 1st round D. #Flyers

@charlieo_conn Isn’t the last 2-3 weeks when he was playing poorly? Surprised he played in 4 Nations if he wasn’t healthy.

Sam Ersson basically said that his injury from the early portion of the season -- I'm fairly certain it was a groin injury -- lingered at least a bit throughout the year. Said he wasn't feeling fully right until the final 2-3 weeks of the season.
