Thank you, @CNPAservices. It was an honor to share the stories of Santa Cruzans who are bringing the natural world into sharper focus. Kudos also go to my editor, @stevepalopoli, for giving me free range to adapt this piece as the pandemic unfolded. goodtimes.sc/cover-stories/…

Today is my last day at @GoodTimesSC. After coming down with some mysterious ailments six years ago, I’ve made a lot of progress in my health. But it’s time for me to focus my undivided attention on de-stressing and healing, so I can keep feeling better. Be well, everyone. 1/3

Imagine if SEO and audience engagement were regularly taught and framed in journalism school as a part of journalism’s key function to serve and inform citizens in a democracy. This thought brought to you by searching for and reading my local news orgs’ voter guides.

I'm thrilled that news outlets want to hire more journos to cover race. But I also wish there was just as much of a focus on making sure beats like biz/politics/tech/health were more diverse. Race isn't some niche subbeat - it kind of affects everything in our lives.

People need to understand just how insidious and routine racism is in the tech industry. Please read the personal stories many Black entrepreneurs shared with me and @mcbridesg. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

As the church bells gong in the distance, dozens of Washingtonians have taken a knee in 8 minutes of silence to honor #GeorgeFloyd, who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer who knelt on his neck for 8 minutes — well after he was unresponsive. Day five of protests in #DC.

White and non-black allies: We need you to speak up. Amplify our voices. Share support and resources. Talk to your family and friends. Take some time to read up on history. Donate to organizations doing credible work. Bail funds. Don't be silent. Pull up. Show up.

Sunday's entire @nytimes front page is a partial list of Covid-19 victims. "The 1,000 people here reflect just 1% of the toll. None were mere numbers."

I wrote about what it was like to attend yesterday's historic #caleg hearing, temperature checks, tech glitches & all — and what came out of it: 1) CA is in a recession, potentially a significant one; and 2) "devastating" budget cuts loom on the horizon calmatters.org/newsletter/ca-…
