As healthcare professionals, we're trained to recognize the subtle signs of underlying medical conditions. One often-overlooked symptom is pallor – a pale skin and mucus membrane appearance. Diagnosing pallor can be particularly challenging in individuals with darker skin tones. Pallor is often noticeable on the face, palms, fingernails, or the inside of the lower eyelid. However, it can be harder to detect pallor on darker skin tones. In such cases, healthcare providers often check less pigmented areas such as the gums, mouth, or conjunctiva (inside the lower eyelid). Detecting pallor early can help identify and address underlying health concerns. #wraptheyear #thankyou

Many patients with darker skin live with this infection all their lives and are not aware of it due to the saturation of most images and illustrations being only white.
The lack of visual representation of infections like this can lead to emotional distress or self-consciousness from the patient and delayed or misdiagnosis from the physician, leading to prescription of unnecessary treatments.
It’s crucial that we come together to address these disparities in medical education. #Tineavesicolor #dermatology #medicalillusatration #medical #health #education

In the US,  according to the National Organization on Disability, 21% of working-age adults with disabilities are employed in healthcare, and how much of that is adequately represented? Despite a recent explosion in research related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the clinician workforce, relatively few studies have focused on the experiences of clinicians with disabilities. Research on the impact of clinicians with physical disabilities on health outcomes is limited, but growing, as it certainly; *Increase empathy and understanding  *Enhance patient satisfaction *Improve health outcomes. Let's not just talk about it, let's actively promote diversity and inclusion in healthcare. Together, we can foster a more empathetic and effective healthcare system. Amazing ! We went through dozens of Doctors, Nurses, Psychiatrists who all said “autistic breakdown” for a child of 9 who had previously shown no autistic tendencies and who had changed overnight. If you work with children please open your eyes and mind to an organic cause.

Today is International #PANS #PANDAS Awareness Day. I often wonder how different Emily’s life would be if she had been diagnosed and treated appropriately. Early diagnosis will save lives #PansPandasAwarenessDay

Psoriasis plaques are usually described as “pink to red.”  Although psoriasis affects individuals of all races, our educational materials frequently depict it as primarily affecting individuals with lighter skin tones. The underrepresentation of skin conditions like psoriasis on black skin can lead to misdiagnoses and perpetuate stereotypes. In some cases, psoriasis is often misconstrued to be Seborrheic dermatitis or Eczema. Research shows that Black and Hispanic people report more embarrassment and problems in their daily lives from psoriasis than white people do, and this has a significant psychological burden, often leading to depression, anxiety, and a lower quality of life.  Efforts to reduce these disparities should include increasing visual representation, providing healthcare professionals with training on diagnosing and treating psoriasis in diverse populations, and expanding access to dermatologic care in underserved areas.

Cyanosis does not always present as purplish or bluish on the skin, as most medical textbooks portray! Certain systemic factors can contribute to healthcare disparities that dark-skinned individuals experience. Diagnostic challenges have been a significant concern in medical education, as most materials concentrate on symptoms that present on white skin.  This results in clinicians being less equipped to correctly diagnose and manage conditions like cyanosis in darker-skinned individuals. Consequently, this leads to low healthcare quality and poor outcomes for patients. Let’s work together to change this narrative. Contact Us!

You destroyed a library. It was MORE than a library, it was a food bank, a source of heat for people in the winter, a place for kids from low income families to use the internet, or do their homework. Why destroy something so vital? Yeah you’re so patriotic guys.
