It’s been so enjoyable not posting comics on social media for the last two weeks, I’m wondering if I should just carry on not doing it.

@DT_comic Ooh you are on Instagram. Although that’s awful too. I just feel really self conscious on Twitter these days but can’t be bothered to go and find a new place.

Sort of in a quandary about Twitter/X. It's pretty clear that engagement with my comic has plummeted by an absolute metric ton. Follower count has not grown in months (in fact it has shrunk a bit), strips don't get anywhere near as many views/likes/reposts as they used to.

Blood Red Flags. 🧵 After the poll yesterday, I'm switching this around. An unexpected result, thank you people!

@cjforms I regularly joke that marketers appear to think of 50 and over as basically between 50 and death.

This is especially galling in #DisabilityPrideMonth Disabled people span all ages from zero to well over 100 years old. We deserve to be proud of our disabilities. And we deserve to be treated as the fully rounded people that we are.
Caroline Jarrett@cjforms

Reading guidance for doing user research with “older adults - 65+” (very slightly older than me). The writer entirely defines us in terms of our age-related disabilities. Absolutely no hint that older people might have different life experiences and interesting perspectives.

@myddelton Dovetail (also, creates video clips from selected text in transcripts).

Researchers - need a better way to tag findings from transcripts. 3 things I need: (i) in transcript: highlight text and select/create tag (ii) later: see all quotes for a tag (iii) also: manage tags (rename, merge, split, categorise) What does this that works well for you?

@DrRosieW Very, very occasionally. Bear in mind the lack of access to journals, too.

And yes, writing a survey for researchers is terrifying 🙃 I'm aware it's not the best, but hopefully a good enough crude measure for what I want to learn!

USER RESEARCHERS: how often do you use scientific/peer reviewed literature as part of your work? Absolutely no judgement, just trying to understand the landscape 😊

SOME NEWS: I’m leaving MOJ & the Civil Service next month. I’ve think I’ve put in a good shift. Trained hundreds of folks in UCD & (digital) transformation. Sowed the data strategy seeds. Delivered some excellent services. Led the most incredible people. Onwards!⚡️

@danachis Hard to talk without specifics! Happy to talk separately. I have seen wellmeaning researchers bounce into subjects which turn out to be 1) upsetting and 2) low value.

@danachis :) For me it's about preparation and aftermath. Can't point to specifics (though I might do them) apart from allowing enough time for the depth of conversation; crafting a hopeful conclusion; listening for the UX parts which are often deeply hidden;recognising limits/boundaries

@danachis In my experience, researchers can get caught badly off guard by hearing traumatic stories; worst, their response can be highly emotional & inappropriate for the participant. Can be a sign that the research isn't right.2/2

@GeekUnderARock Yes we are pretty much ok - that said my son has Covid so we've had to re-plan Christmas completely :( Just really hoping this is the last phase of it. All the best to you and yours too.

Is there anyone in my Twitter network who’s worked at GDS in user research? I have a friend wanting to move from academia into digital research so have said I’d ask around to help her chat to someone 😊
