China has proven that we can reverse land degradation on a massive scale. Over three decades of dedicated vegetation restoration have significantly slowed soil erosion. By turning vulnerable slopes back into forests and grasslands, the average erosion rate dropped by nearly 4 tons per hectare. However, the job is not finished. As climate change intensifies rainfall, even our greenest landscapes face new pressures. This research highlights that while plants are our best defense, we must continue to prioritize soil health to withstand a changing environment.
