We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Involuntary drug treatment can cause great harm – even death – and does not save lives. Forced treatment of people who use drugs cannot be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society. 1/ cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

New article just out - led by the brilliant Ingrid Handlovsky! Our broader mixed-methods project examined nursing students' experiences of discrimination in their programs, and this paper specifically draws on interview data to present recommendations. authors.elsevier.com/c/1jlg95EcXyYb…

The 15-year-old boy from Samson Cree Nation who was shot and killed by RCMP Friday morning in Wetaskiwin, AB was Hoss Lightning. His maternal grandmother sent me this photo taken of him earlier this year (he’s asking his grandmother if he looks like his late grandfather in the photo he’s holding). He was loved and cherished by his family who are devastated. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating. RCMP have told media Hoss had weapons on him (although anything could be considered a weapon and RCMP have not released details). Hoss had called 911 about an hour before he was killed because he was concerned for his safety and believed someone was following him. A kid. Alone walking around town. His life snuffed out like countless other Indigenous Peoples who are the victims of the highest police violence in Canada.

@drmarionlynch Thank you for your kind words! Love this ‘critical and radical’ approach - so needed in our enactment of social justice in nursing 💪🏻

@AllieSlemon Brilliant analysis, had me hooked in and thinking of so many transferable issues. We speak of social justice as a way of knowing,…. But… Shall be looking into this critically & radically through the arts & nursing. TY.

🚨New pub exploring how social justice is positioned within Canadian nursing documents (national and provincial) - finds that "despite consistent calls for our profession to act to remediate inequities, social justice was foundationally devalued". doi.org/10.1111/nin.12…
