I was given the wonderful job of programming the festival this year, so of course I made the opening night a drag performance lecture extravaganza 🌈

@impactology @MissMythreyi I love you raising the point about how in control it makes the user/maker/etc person feel- esp thinking about things like codesign tools as opposed to like, an aspiration towards codesign toys that invite rule breaking and designing differently and are less prescriptive

@allinote @MissMythreyi So an artefact is a tool, for me, if that enables folks to feel in control and feel like they are getting some outlet to express their creativity, imagination. Where the affordances…afford them a space to use their creativity via deliberate actions, not automation

@impactology @MissMythreyi (Although I confess the difference between ‘tools’ and ‘technology’ still seems blurry to me and there is something a bit unsatisfactory to me about OOO)

@impactology @MissMythreyi True, but I guess it speaks more to tools from a materialist perspective- like, how humans perceive ‘things’/materials of the world and how we interpret and learn from each-other about what can be done with it, what that let’s us do individually and collectively etc
