Standard theory is that Auction was bad. I don’t think the supply was great this season. Injuries don’t help. Take 3 first 11 players of most teams and they struggle. Big Auction pretty much dictates how three years go. Barring 2024 when supply was great it’s hard to improve much

This is a highly problematic quote, and it is obvious Fleming genuinely believes it. At one point they had Sarfaraz, Kartik, and Veer at 5 to 7, with Kamboj and Henry to follow. Just because players are hitting from ball one does not mean the need for finishers is gone. Finishers are not just batters who accelerate at the end. Good finishers are a specific type of batter, especially strong against slower variations and full lengths from pacers, the go to deliveries at the death. Great finishers also handle hard lengths and even an over of wrist spin. CSK have two acceptable options in this role right now. Brevis destroys full and slower balls but struggles against back of a length. Jamie Overton is at least competent against most pace types. One was injured, and the other, despite being their best player in the first game, was dropped. Just stacking high strike rate players in random order is not how you crack T20s.
