“I didn’t get to land the point in our dialogue. There is something bizarre about the success of dramas from the non-West. As they keep getting produced and keep getting awards, I wonder if these movies want to appease the Western audience to make them feel content about their presence in our regions? The consistent awarding of these movies dictates the genre and the norm of what a “good” movie is. "Could it be that the reception of dramas from the non-West is this popular in festivals because they make America’s and Europe’s legacy and operations (invasions, expansions, aggressions) look not barbaric, and more like an upgrade for “those humans” whose films constantly dramatize their own miseries? "من نتوانستم حرفم رو اینجا تمام کنم. این موضوعیه که خیلی بهش فکر میکنم.” اقبال فیلمهای درامِ پر از لایه لایه بدبختیِ ایرانی و غیرغربی در فستیوالهای غربی برای من همیشه پر رمز و راز بوده. همینطور که این فیلمها تولید میشوند و جایزه میگیرند، با خودم فکر میکنم که آیا این فیلمها ساخته میشوند که به حال خوبِ مخاطب غربی در مورد حضور خودش در مناطق ما حسابی پر و بال بدهند؟ چون این جایزه ها، ناخودآگاه ژانرِ و نُرمِ فیلمِ جایزه-گیرِ فستیوال رو در کشورهای ما تعیین میکنه. اینجوری سلیقه ی صاحبان فستیوال و توجهشون به ما تبدیل به قطب نمایی برای سنجش ارزش خودمون نسبت به خودمون می‌شه. آیا ممکنه استقبال از درام‌های غیرغربی و ایرانی - فیلم‌هایی پر از لایه لایه بدبختی- در جشنواره‌ها به این علت زیاد باشه که این فیلمها باعث میشوند این نوع درکِ از جامعه ی غیرغربی برای غربی ها به وجود بیاد. و اینجوری هنرمندان جامعه ی صاحبِ فستیوال، حضور و حرکات خصمانه ی دولتهاشون رو در مناطق ما، وحشیانه و منفعت-طلبانه ندونند؟‌ موضوعی که خودم همیشه در موردش فکر میکنم و سوال میپرسم" ن.ن. instagram.com/reel/DMsqeZQMy…
