@ash_chowder In hyd? Unless it’s cinepolis sudha or some deserted cinema. It has decent occupancy and full houses at Dolby and PCX

Hopped between two multiplexes for Disclosure Day this Sunday morning and both cancelled last minute, for poor screen occupancy (I was one among 2-3 viewers in both). This is a Spielberg return-to-sci-fi we're talking about. Where are all the cinema snobs at??

Audio delay happened in between the film. The film was running, there was a glitch and then the sync went out of place. And this happened thrice. Now they’ve halted the show only after audience asked to stop and rectify IMAX, Palazzo, Vijaya Mall, Vadapalani @_PVRCinemas @IMAX

@ganeish29 @_PVRCinemas @IMAX Pbr don’t give a damn about movie experience. All they care is if ads are played well. Film is timepass. Give the best tech to them and they will spoil it with thier maintenance within weeks. People stopped visiting them in hyd unless for big films demand hype

@MukiEX57 @etubruton @lauriewired JPEG 2000 is like macro locking free. You won’t be seeing possible artifacts like other codecs and much more. That’s why it’s been chosen for DCI. Don’t compare it with HEVC which can be terrible for dci

it's funny how much people care about 4K when the majority of actual movie theaters are barely above 1080p

@trygraptor @Sidhaarthaaaa Maybe something like what they did for tcl Chinese theater for Oppenheimer screening by covering the screen accordingly to fit 1.43 frame. A film projector was temporarily installed.

@altbuffac @Sidhaarthaaaa tbf this imax already existed, and i’m not sure if this is an upgrade to a 1.43 i believe so - feels like they’d have to to match it to the 70mm format, but i actually haven’t found any info saying it’s definitely 1.43 now (it used to be 1.90 with a digital projector)

Sharing this because there's a lot of noise around "true IMAX" on Telugu Twitter. Building a true 1.43:1 IMAX in Hyderabad is merely a matter of investment. In reality, our options are strictly bound by technological stagnation and local economics. Consider the physical technology. True 1.43 requires specific hardware: original 15/70mm film or Dual 4K Laser projectors. The modern standard of 1.90 relies on single-laser systems. The core problem is that the knowledge and supply chains to build new 1.43 projectors have been abandoned. IMAX no longer manufactures the necessary film or dual-laser units. They have shifted entirely to 1.90 single-laser systems. To install a 1.43 screen today, one cannot simply buy a new machine; one must salvage and cannibalize old hardware. Even if this hardware problem were solved, the economic environment presents a strict barrier. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh operate under ticket price caps. The immense capital required to resurrect a custom 1.43 setup demands a premium pricing model. Expecting audiences to consistently pay above 500 INR for standard viewings is simply not viable. We do not lack the ambition for a better cinematic experience. We are merely constrained by a global regression in projection hardware and inflexible local price limits. End of Story

@Speaks_Div I genuinely don’t see much value in collab with imax if I myself can build a super good flat screen atmos/dts x auditorium. Like recently what broadway cinemas did for example. This compared to 1.90 imax screen? I don’t see anything here. Imax is 1.43 and they are sleeping on it

@altbuffac It'd be cheaper for them to just license IMAX and build an IMAX audi in their cinemas. Businesses don't work on boycotts when the alternatives aren't that developed.

This may sound like a ragebait to some, but just hear me on this: If I were IMAX and had a market like ours where there's no commercial 1.43 showing #TheOdyssey, I would've realized my biggest advantage is 1.90 aspect ratio. In that case, for a market like India, I wouldn't be giving away an aspect ratio like 1.85 (it's so close to 1.90 you can barely tell the difference) to my competitors, which just dilutes the value addition of IMAX. & I know they mentioned 1.85 for PLF on their website, but guess what they didn't say? They didn't say it would come to all markets like India. It could just be limited to US/Canada/other places having access to 1.43 (whether dual laser or 15/70 film). I also know that for non-IMAX: 1. Mando recently delivered 1.85 to other formats globally, but that was for a limited runtime in that expanded ratio, compared to #IMAX where it was expanded for a longer duration. 2. Before this, #Avatar3 didn't give 1.85 to India, but Avatar 2 did. 3. #GOTG3 again didn't give 1.85 to India (it was kind of limited to their domestic market, i.e., the USA). Look it's not a guess or a prediction. I'm only stating a possibility (that too for a movie like Odyssey where the director & the movie itself is a poster-boy of IMAX). Just in case it happens, y'all should know.

@KodelaDeepak That’s why imax 1.90 doesn’t make any sense. Thier ups is 1.43, ignoring that and opening these Liemax flat screens and locking up ratios for thier screens only is stupid

@f1fangod @Rudraveena_ But considering the overall lighting of the film DC allu is better. Recently I watched trailer on that screen it looked perfect from the middle row. Mainly the sea shot’s ah chefs kiss. PCX is also good though but when contrast is compared which this film benefits from - DC 💥

@Rudraveena_ Wrong. PCX Screen 6 is the best. DC lacks Immersion and watching Chris Nolan movies in a screen which can and cannot provide Immersion make a lot of difference. Because he shoots on a larger 70mm cell, the depth and scale in every frame feels gigantic. And DC just can't show it.

There is no IMAX 1.43:1 in India, so Dolby Cinema at Allu Cinemas should be everyone’s go-to destination for the best experience. #TheOdyssey
