Any talk about a midfield MUST account of OOP scenarios when Rice isn't on the team. This is the EPL, not Ligue 1. Teams will always try to find scenarios to attack. Imagine a midfield of Wharton-MLS-Zubimendi trying to stop a Newcastle counter (13th place). We don't need to kill Rice just because we can. I actually think MLS can handle, to an extent, Rice's IP duties (high ball carrying and has generalist qualities), but OOP is where the issues arise. While MLS is a really good dueller, he doesn't have the aerial ability or large space coverage ANYWHERE CLOSE to Rice. We can all clearly see how tired Rice is, he's said it himself on interviews after games. You want him to go to the WC and still come and play all the minutes? Hell no. Nobody can cover distances like Rice, no one. The closest would be Onana. So when you think about any solutions for our midfield, you have to think about it in two-fold: 🚫 We need a midfielder who receives comfortably from deep (among our double pivot midfielders, only MLS can do this at a top level) 🚫 We need a midfielder who can defend transitions OOP and duel both aerially and ground at a respectable level (only Rice can do all this among our double pivots, and he does it at an elite level. Zubimendi is a great dueller, but cannot defend large spaces during a transition... same with MLS) These are the solutions: ✅ Elliot Anderson. The cream of the crop. Checks both boxes expertly. Is fantastic OOP but also has superb press resitance. Would be perfect we're it not for the price tag. EPL proven, especially in a team that gives him the build up load. ✅ Mateus Fernandes. He has the duelling of an MLS/Zubimendi, the press resistance of an MLS, while being aerially better than MLS and a better transition defender than both MLS and Zubimendi. He's an even better interceptor of the ball than Zubimendi, and covers ground very well. Cheap, too. EPL proven in a team that gives him the build up load. ✅ James Garner. Underrated as hell. After Onana, Garner is the closest thing to Rice. He's a 7/10 IP and 9.5/10 OOP. He can also play ANYWHERE and perform. Aerially strong, secure in possession, and super versatile. Mentality levels are superb, too. EPL proven in a team that gives him the build up load. ✅ Sign two midfielders. Adam Wharton is not the answer if he'll be our only midfield signing. You have to sign him alongside someone with high OOP chops (Onana, Baleba, James Garner, etc). We're not gonna get Rice injured because we want more technical security. You have to address both problems. This also means we'll have to sell Zubimendi and it'll demand more money in general. So, in summary, you go with Anderson, Fernandes, Garner, or Wharton+an OOP demon. Any other answer doesn't address our midfield needs for next season.

@Matt_James37 @altos_daniel @AntonioMango4 The Rogers inspired Villa was phenomenal! This is not a general insult to the team, its just evidence suggests Emery is a peaks and troughs manager that struggles to be good in the league and Europe AT THE SAME TIME, tis all.

Richard@afc_richard

Everyone likes to talk about Unai Emery as an elite coach, but 7 years later he still hasn’t worked out how to successfully juggle a league campaign alongside a european run

@AntonioMango4 7 examples and 6 didn't get a UCL qualifying spot from the league. The one where he gets UCL from league he's dropped from title challenger to floating around top 5. Elite coaches don't consistently finish 5th - 7th

@MoArsenal86 Arteta has a track record of signing chelsea rejects....stop this b.s.....he is the one playing madueke over dowman right now and also the one who shipped off nwaneri or are we going to blame Berta for that?

The two most reliable sources (HoA, The Athletic) confirmed Noni was not high on our list - only one of the many “alternative” options. But you hate Arteta so you’ll ignore the facts. You’ll insist Noni was his dream to suit your agendas. Arteta is not perfect but agendas? Yawn. pic.twitter.com/jTnVhUROoi
Mo@MoArsenal86

Spot on. Arteta wanted Isak and Rodrygo as first choice, then Sesko and Mbuemo as second choice. This is a fact. Berta & co went 0/4 and gave him Gyok and Noni. Now the same people that were happy with the summer are blaming Arteta for these players. Hilarious fanbase.

I had never researched Iran that deeply before but what the fuck was Trump thinking. 😂 This has never gone well for long. Genghis Khan (og killrape steppemogger king) had trouble with “Iran” even after wiping out 3/4 of the population.

Arsenal currently have a build-up issue, and it largely stems from Zubimendi not being able to consistently beat the press in the first phase or progress the ball effectively. As a result, Rice is being forced to drop deeper to compensate, and overworked. The ripple effect of this is slower ball progression, reduced central penetration and a potential Rice injury due to accumulated fatigue. Zubimendi was signed to fix this exact problem, yet at the moment, he seems to be contributing to it. Arsenal need to enter the market again for a technical, press resistant, buildup specialist, progressive passer 6.

We've finally made a move for Pio Esposito, but Inter ain't interested in selling. Just to update this list since some players have become unavailable this coming summer due to signing new contracts or signing for new teams. Jacquet and Yildiz are no longer realistic, which makes my list a bit different. 1. DEFENCE We don't really have priority areas to fill. The closest would be right back if Ben White can't stay fit. I do think he'll stay fit. Anyways, my choices for defensive signings are: -Davide Bartesaghi -Nathaniel Brown -Michael Kayode -Tiago Gabriel -Víctor Valdepeñas 2. MIDFIELD My midfield hasn't really changed (since I prefer generalists to specialists) except with the introduction of new players: -Manuel Locatelli (Priority) -Lucien Agoumé -Ayyoub Bouaddi -Mateus Fernandes -Chema Andrés -Kennet Eicchorn 3. ATTACK My priority LW is most likely staying at Juventus in the summer, so the other names I mentioned are next. I don't wanna hear Barcola or Rodrygo, or I'm gonna lose my shit. Below are the real LWs suited to Arsenal: -Jean-Mattéo Bahoya -Yan Diomande -Morgan Rogers Who joins depends 1. On who leaves. If Trossard leaves, Morgan Rogers is probably a better replacement. If Martinelli leaves, Diomande is perfect. Bahoya is fine either way. 2. Price. Just sign whoever is cheapest, 'cos I have these three on the same level relative to how well they work in Arteta's system. As for strikers. There are only three I'm hoping for as a Gabriel Jesus replacement when he leaves in the summer: -Pio Esposito (Priority) -Álvaro Rodríguez -Eli Junior Kroupi Three very different strikers, but each one could add something to our attack.

My final views for our Summer Transfer Window 2026: DEFENCE 🌟Priority: - Davide Bartesaghi or Nathaniel Brown. It allows Calafiori to be a Beckenbauer-esque CB, where he will flourish. Arteta will more likely go for Bartesaghi because of his height. - Michael Kayode. Imagine our newly contracted long-throw expert coaching Kayode... ABSOLUTE CINEMA. However, Kayode is so much more than a long-throw specialist. He's a great tackler, great on the ball, and aerially sound. Also has a ton of stamina. He reminds me of Timber a lot. - Jérémy Jacquet. This means Calafiori remains as an LB with Hincapie and does his usual chaotic roams. Seems too costly, though, so we might just continue with what we have now. ⭐️Alternative: - Víctor Valdepeñas. A mini-Calafiori. Might be a good understudy to sign for cheap and develop. MIDFIELD 🌟 Priority: - Lucien Agoumé. He is the perfect Zubimendi understudy. Physically ready for the Premier League NOW and has everything needed to be a tempo controller for us. - Ayyoub Bouaddi. Copy and paste everything I said above about Agoumé, but change Zubimendi to Rice. Bouaddi is the heir apparent to Rice at Arsenal if he joins. My only reservations about him joining is it directly impedes MLS' reintegration into midfield. ⭐️Alternative: - Chema Andrés. Criminally underrated player. You could make an argument that he's as good as Agoumé. Another great rotation option for Zubimendi. - Kennet Eicchorn. If we can't get Bouaddi, I think the next best option is to get an amazing young player that won't hinder MLS' development at midfield but is also good enough to play (or develop via the academy/loan). ATTACK 🌟Priority: - Kenan Yıldız. The crown jewel. I would do anything for us to get him. He fits Arteta's philosophy of "Total Footballers" like a glove. Versatile enough to play LW, RW, AM, CM, and striker with little drop-off in his quality. Is aerially sound, dual-footed, has devastating ball striking, works hard OOP, has a ton of stamina, and can play whipped low crosses or floated deliveries. This is the only player I'd be okay with us paying 80-90m for, mainly because his wages are not really high based on what he's asking for from Juventus. He also has a good sample of UCL experience despite only being 20. ⭐️Alternatives: - Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, Yan Diomande, or Morgan Rogers. I don't think I'd be comfortable paying anything above 70-75m for these players, but they are simply amazing. Each one has a question mark that Yildiz does not have, but if we can't get Yildiz, I'm 100% fine with any of them. I think Bahoya fits our style the most because of his god-tier crossing and ability to work in both transition and low-block scenarios equally, but Diomande is a fantastic attacking force that seems to be growing rapidly, and Rogers is an EPL-proven anti-xG machine. I'm tempted to add Pio Esposito as I've been an ultra giga fan of the guy, but I doubt Inter are gonna sell. This will be the last in-depth transfer list I do for the rest of the season.

Arsenal’s result against Wolves last night was unacceptable, and there’s no denying that the team is currently performing well below the standards expected of them. However, at the start of the season, most Arsenal supporters would have gladly accepted being top of the Premier League, leading their Champions League group, in the Carabao Cup final, and through to the fifth round of the FA Cup. Rival fans from Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United are free to mock, but the question remains: where do their clubs currently stand? There is still a long way to go this season. Arsenal supporters need to take a breath and avoid embarrassing overreactions driven by entitlement.
