@WesthamVan1 @Iromg @westhamhour All other ‘allied healthcare’ courses get £5,000 per year bursary, which they don’t have to pay back. Hardly seems fair, and makes medicine less accessible.

@WesthamVan1 @Iromg @westhamhour I got sent hundreds of miles from home with no say in it. Starting a stressful job in a new area with zero support system sounds like a great idea lol. Add in the financial cost of being a med student, we get a reduced maintenance loan in 5th year. Why? 2/3

@WesthamVan1 @Iromg @westhamhour Two of my rotations this year had zero out of hours work, so I was working at base pay. My take home was around £2,300 for those 8 months. For someone earning minimum wage with no student loan, they would take home about £400 less than me. That’s crazy. 3/3

@WesthamVan1 @Iromg @westhamhour The competition ratio for what I want to go into is now 14:1. That’s one of the lower ones. I will likely never be a consultant, so now the circumstances have changed I am surely allowed to ask to be remunerated properly in terms of the work I do. 2/3

@Stuckinthe53025 I mean, I don’t think you can say that until they at least see some pay restoration. I’m a doctor, I get £15.22 per hour. That’s £2.50 more than minimum wage. In terms of take home pay, that puts me about £137 better off than someone on minimum wage. That’s ridiculous.

@d5_rss You don’t think they deserve it? How much do you think doctors should be paid?

@WesthamVan1 @Iromg @westhamhour Say myself and a newly qualified nurse both work 1 hour at 12pm. In terms of being remunerated for that time, the nurse earns more money. 2/2

@WesthamVan1 @Iromg @westhamhour We don’t get overtime. We get an uplift for OOH work, no overtime. It’s impossible to say how much an F1 earns in a year because it varies between every rotation. However, how can you compare like for like without taking it to a hourly rate? 1/2

@Lou_Gooner77 @DailyMail @Startinglifeag1 Hi, doctor here. I earn £15.22 per hour. £2.50 more than minimum wage for 6 years of uni and £120,000 of debt. Please tell me again how I’m greedy for wanting a bit more than that, and also for not wanting to be unemployed. The strikes weren’t about more than money.

@vitale1776 @DailyMail Strikes don’t increase morbidity/mortality. They are very well covered. If trusts don’t believe they are safe they can call doctors back in, Nottingham does this during every strikes. The strikes weren’t just about pay, they were also about jobs. I earn £15.22 per hour lol.

@KevinWi03634057 Also no uplift on bank holidays. On Xmas day I was the lowest paid member of staff in the hospital.

@KevinWi03634057 No, just the uplifts mentioned. Often stay at least 1 hour late, not rare for it to be two.

@KevinWi03634057 State pension is £12,500. Will you answer the question, do you think doctors should be paid £15.22 / hour. Yes or no? It’s simple.

@Mackenz81935556 @Liam9015 @Iromg How much do you get paid? A quick google says £31,164 per year, 40 hours per week. Thats £14.98 / hour. So about 24p less than me. It’s not a competition. I agree you guys should be paid more too.
