Seven years to the day I started at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, we received the news that RWCMD’s response to my allegation of sexual assault had been found negligent in a court of law on 12 different counts. And today, we can finally celebrate✨

I definitely wouldn’t say it’s “figured out” yet — this is pretty uncharted territory and there is an incredible lack of regulation which will have to be sorted. Especially when it comes to deep fakes and copying the likeness of a real person. We’re only just starting to see this play out it courts, so should be interesting... nytimes.com/2023/12/27/bus…

‼️ There are different types of legal claims you can make against UK universities with longer statues of limitations, which can also be extended in some cases! In my case, we sued the university for negligence 2 years after I’d left, though we did get an extension. It was only feasible for me to bring a claim because I found a lawyer who took my case on on a no win-no fee basis and there are no cost risks associated with negligence law. You’re referring to is suing under the Equality Act for discrimination, which there are several problems with. Unlike negligence, cost risk is a big factor under discrimination law, as the loser is also liable for the winner’s fees. So suing for discrimination is a big risk a lot of people can’t take. Sure, there’s a lot of problems that need to be addressed, but you have more options than you think and the legal system can work in your favor! ✨ I hope we can end the stigma that the legal system is a big scary institution that works against students, because that’s what universities want you to think, because it only serves to benefit them and let them to continue to get away with mistreating students. With my case and with Abrahart v. Bristol, the tide is turning. Which means, the legal system is more often than not a student’s best chance at taking back their power against the university that’s mistreated them 💪

Sadly, overseas students in UK #universities are often victims of abuse because of unfamiliarity with UK legal system Legal action must start very quickly or you are out of time It's often 3 months minus 1 day from the date the problem happened #AcademicTwitter

@21percentgroup @BristolUni If I had had money, I would have also sued the University of Bristol for the disgusting things they did to me during my PhD, and I would have won. But I now still don't have money for lawsuit. All I've been able to do is tell prospective overseas students not to choose that uni.

Those at top of UK #universities are unaccountable They bubble-wrap themselves in words like "inclusion & diversity are at the ❤️ of all we do" When bad things happen, they protect the institution in disciplinary processes which they control🤮 #AcademicTwitter @halfon4harlowMP

I beg every international student NOT TO GO to a UK university 1. UK universities are some of the least regulated higher education institutions in the world 2. UK university students are the least legally protected group of people @halfon4harlowMP — how many more lives or lawsuits are needed before something changes?

I don’t care what @UniversitiesUK has to say at this point, because the UK university sector cannot be trusted to self-regulate. What I don’t understand is why Parliament hasn’t stepped in? @halfon4harlowMP Or why appointed bodies such as the @oiahe don’t have regulatory powers? Or why the actual regulatory body — @officestudents — doesn’t get involved with individual complaints against universities? Or why, with all these lawsuits going on, has the @nusuk not commented on what is going on in universities or in regards to creating a Statutory Duty of Care? Aren’t you meant to be working on behalf of students? Repeated emails have been ignored. @chloenusvphe The UK is decades behind the rest of the world in terms of regulating universities and putting protections in place for students. Everybody wants to give kuddos to the very few universities trying to do better, but why is that good enough when the majority of the sector continues to do nothing? Especially a sector funded by tuition fees and taxpayer money? How many more students have to suffer, be dragged through the court system, or lose their lives before something is done?

“Natasha was struggling. She told them she was suicidal. They just carried on. They should have stopped.” Bob and Maggie Abrahart, whose daughter Natasha suffered debilitating anxiety at university and took her own life, say they will keep fighting for a statutory duty of care.

@LingfengGe if you’re interested in pursuing a lawsuit, give me a follow and shoot me a DM! Since my lawsuit, my lawyer has taken on 5 other cases against UK universities. He’s taken several on on a no win-no fee basis, which is the only way I was able to pursue my case. I’d love to put you two in touch. Up until recently, they’ve made students believe they’re powerless and that the legal system is built to work against them. Therefore, the majority of UK universities have refused to change their ways and continue to harm students. Thanks to these recent lawsuits, things are changing. And UK universities are in for a rude awakening!

In a week, @BristolUni lost the Miller Tribunal & the Abrahart Appeal As losers, they pick up the Abrahart costs The direct & indirect costs of this will be around £1.5 to 2 million Research & teaching money squandered by poor Uni management #academia #AcademicTwitter

A 5+ year battle that finally reached a positive outcome in the High Court. Congrats to the incredible Abrahart family for this outcome and for their resilience in this fight. Shame on you, @BristolUni. Shamelessly and relentlessly dragging this family through the court system denying your responsibility after killing their daughter. Beyond disgusting. @evelynwelch2013 — who is going to be held accountable?

New in Jeffery Epstein filings: Lawyers for @MiamiHerald and @jkbjournalist are seeking the actual list of people named in the unsealed documents. "Without this list, Intervenors and the public are puzzling together the Court’s ruling with each of the unsealed documents to match the identities of each of the third parties with the Court’s ruling."
