@DaomiLove @IncitefulPod Sometimes a single case can demonstrate how wrong a position is. For example, Isla Bryson single handedly showed that self ID is totally unsafe for women. We didn't need Isla to assault someone in prison to prove what is blindingly obvious.

@IncitefulPod Sure. That individual is exactly where they belong: prison. But policy should be built on data, not single anomalies. If we ban entire demographics based on the worst actions of one individual, no one will be allowed anywhere 🤷‍♀️

Trans women have been using the ladies loos for two decades in the UK. There is NO evidence to suggest women are at a greater risk because of it. This is a made-up problem caused by some rich bigots. Excluding trans peoples from single sex spaces will not make c!s women safer.

@suffolkvicar They are not single sex spaces if men who identify as women are allowed access them.

@Heccles94 What an inclusive suggestion. How bizarre think that beliefs and politics rather than sex should determine which toilets you can access. Well done for showing your contempt for women who disagree with you.

Why don’t we just make a TERF cubical available??? Solves the issue 🤷

@Heccles94 It is trans activists who often ignore trans men. Not surprising as many of the activists and allies appear to be quite sexist. It is the (male) trans women who get the attention.

50% of trans people were born as male, and 50% born as female. Transphobes ignore Trans men, but obsess over trans women using women’s toilets. Both sets of people are being negatively stigmatised by this ruling. In fact, toilets are about to become more confusing and hostile than ever. No one wins.
Carol Fieldhouse@fieldhce17

@Heccles94 Definitely- and everyone in the right place! What you men don’t get is that women- most women- do not want our single-sex spaces being taken away by men, who then have lots of male spaces while women have none. Not just toilets after all…

@Janet4369587977 @alywarren7 The court is hardly going to come out and say "we rewrote this law because there was substantial media demand for it and MPs washed their hands of the whole thing," are they now

One important but underappreciated facet of this story is the way in which it represents the creeping Americanisation of British politics. This country does not have US-style separation of powers. It is not the role of the Supreme Court - let alone quangos like the EHRC - to make sweeping policy changes on the basis of definitional quibbling. If we had a government with any backbone, or any commitment to protecting the rights of this country's LGBTQ+ people, this entire saga would have been over in a single vote. But instead, our government has wilfully abrogated its own constitutional responsibility because the Labour party has bought into the narrative that this whole debate is "toxic" and there's no way to come out ahead or meaningfully set the agenda. (i.e., they don't want to get yelled at by J. K. Rowling OR their own largely pro-trans activist base) In time, I think we might look back on this incident as a moment of profound constitutional change, a signal that our legislators are increasingly willing to wash their hands of any remotely thorny issue - regardless of the long-term damage to the trust and authority of our parliament.

@PeterTatchell The usual nonsense trans arguments. Things like this are not actively policed, most people obey the law. See also red lights, seatbelts and the smoking ban in pubs (which many said would be flouted).

Toilets & changing rooms must be used on basis of biological sex, new guidance says How will this be policed? It's impossible! Already biological women who are deemed insufficiently feminine are being falsely accused of being trans & harassed. SHAME! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@thewinterdollx You are using rape (by men) to justify why male born people need to be in the women's facilities. Is this fair to women?

Have any of you stopped and considered the harassment we’re going to get if we were to use the male toilets? And how much more likely we are to be raped? This is actually disgusting! The British government ought to be ashamed of themselves 😫

Sorry if I’m being ignorant, where are the figures that demonstrate trans women pose a threat to anyone in single sex spaces? There must be overwhelming research evidence and figures given the air time this is being given.

@Heccles94 If trans women have access to rape crisis centres then women may self exclude. See also changing rooms and sport. You never ever consider the impact to women. Their silence is sometimes fear which is interpreted as consent.

@Heccles94 Alternatively we shouldn't disadvantage women by prioritising another group. Also, it makes sense if the EHRC follows the recent High Court case.

@DunnyCounty @hoeBread36 Oh yes, sex-based categories are exactly the same as weight or age classes in sport. Pure segregation, darling. We must end this reactionary nonsense immediately. Let heavyweights pummel featherweights, let grown adult men compete against juniors. Fairness is so last century🙄
