Graham Nordone grew up with her brother in a small room behind a bar run by their parents called the Sanitary Cafe, and later moved into a trailer and a house next door. But when she was 11, their mother died. Their father died when she was 13. washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/…

New from me: American businesses are convinced higher inflation is here to stay, as the forces behind it multiply. Tariffs are still grinding through supply chains, the Iran war keeps oil on edge, and AI data centers are bidding up components and electricity. wapo.st/4fdhQeu

Who says we can't do infrastructure? It just takes years and years. “When we finish the Piney Branch Tunnel, it will hold at least 4.2 million gallons of rainwater and wastewater during heavy storms.” #more-346833" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">popville.com/2026/07/piney-…

Yes, the paper says illegal immigration explains 30% of housing price run up, not that it raised prices by 30%. But that’s still…a lot of money, and cold comfort to Americans subjected to those higher prices.

In the average metro area, unauthorized immigration raised home prices by 6.6 percent from early 2021 to early 2024, per a Dallas/SF Fed paper the White House is touting. But that explains at most 30% of the run-up — meaning at least 70% came from other factors. My story on what the paper actually says: wapo.st/4h4aigy

"A group of justices from across the court’s ideological spectrum ruled Cook could keep her job while a lawsuit challenging her dismissal plays out in the courts. The case could take months or years to resolve and could eventually appear before the high court again on appeal." washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/…

Justice Thomas, alone among the nine member of the Supreme Court, argues the Fed is essentially an executive agency subject to presidential control. He has a rejoinder to the majority: the Court treats the firing of a Fed governor as historically extraordinary, while ignoring that today's injunction blocking a presidential removal is itself without precedent in the Constitution's 237-year history. Again, definitely an outlier position in today's ruling (at odds with the Trump administration's own legal position on Fed independence.) washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/…
