In 2024, Kentucky had a starting five that began their careers at SDSU, BYU, OU, Delaware, & Drexel. Fully healthy, they beat the eventual national champs and were Elite 8 caliber. If that roster were built this offseason, it would likely be criticized. Not saying this year's team will succeed or fail, just saying maybe we should let it play out.

@RowlandRIVALS I have seen “bottom X team in the SEC” so much today, it’s laughable. There are not 8 SEC teams who we would trade spots with. There are not 25 total teams who we would trade places with. Not the standard, but still not as bad as being sold.

A lot of things can be true at once so I'm not saying everything is fine but I do think a lot of people are underselling the quality on the roster that Kentucky does have lined up. Diallo, Wilkins, Ndiaye, Kam, Moreno, McBride is not a bad first six.

@itsAntWright Cal is big. Kentucky is Big. The 2 together was a perfect marriage until it wasn't. Players have ALWAYS played for coaches first and schools second. The difference is Cal is big until he hangs it up. Kentucky will always be big.

McBride seems like the perfect guy to play the Ansley Almonor role but be good at the things Ansley wasn’t like defending and rebounding while still being a knockdown shooter. Lock him up to be the backup 4 and you have my full attention. But he can’t be the starter.

@BigBlueBud curious what type of season people think it will take for Pope to have a 4th season. Just how hot do we actually think his seat is? (Not how hot we want it to be- but the actual decision makers) Does he get year 4 with a 6th place SEC finish and a sweet 16?

@DylanBallard_UK regardless of political affiliation, if there is a Dean who was appointed and didn't follow the typical approval process at a public institution (and there's smoke that it's $ driven) I would want a governor calling it out. Hopefully he would do the same if he liked the judge.

This is interesting. I respect Gov. Beshear speaking up on a situation that’s lacked clarity, and he’s right to question some of the recent decisions. It was needed. But bringing donors into this based on your personal politics? That part misses the mark. There have been real issues with leadership, contracts, and decision-making at UK for a while now. I appreciate someone of his stature stepping up to them. BUT pointing fingers at political foes that had nothing to do with this doesn’t solve our problem. It’s ridiculous.

@BigBlueBud absolutely should be upset. When you prioritize a guy and miss it's a big deal. One silver lining I'll say is Oates and Hurley (2 of the best) both took a look and said not worth it. Add in the stories of drama in his camp and maybe (I'm trying here) it's a good thing 🤷

Appreciate my fellow Kentucky fans explaining to me that it’s actually a good thing we missed on Freeman because he’s not even good. I hadn’t considered that our staff had targeted and aggressively recruited a bad player, so I shouldn’t be upset at them. I see the light, now.

@jasonk27v He played zero minutes. He was a redshirt. I put no stock into him for preseason thoughts or expectations. Just because he has big upside doesn’t move me to think Kentucky is going to turn into a national championship contender.

Kentucky will have pretty much 0 real retention outside of Malachi Moreno and Kam Williams. They’ll have to fill out an entire roster of transfer portal players, which will likely consist of initial third options after missing on first targets, being late or already committed elsewhere second options, and then settling and overpaying for third options. Probably and likely no freshmen coming in outside of a 100+ ranked freshman whose dad is on staff. DISASTER! #BBN #KentuckyBasketball

@sixersfan911 @BleedBNetwork Football players are typically less marketable than bball (for a whole host of reasons). If there is a structure that makes outside deals harder to get (like prioritizing approved outlets) bball players more likely to be negatively impacted.

Pope will get a lot of heat, and some of it, maybe even a lot of it is rightfully placed. However, the administration keeps telling fans and media to be quiet and stop asking questions about NIL, while the list of misses with elite players in the red zone continues to grow. Pope is good enough to get players to the finish line in recruitment, but UK keeps missing at the end. Whether it’s the lack of a GM, the NIL deal structure (which we keep hearing is an issue), or a combination of all of the above, the criticism of the staff and the administration when it comes to basketball NIL and recruitment is only going to get louder.

@ScoopLexington It's not lowering the standard. it's recognizing Pope's going to be the coach at least until March 14 of next year and lots of us would rather hold out hope he can figure it out rather than expect the worst - especially when there is still a long way to go in building the roster

Here’s my input on this portal season thus far. I believe Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins are both awesome gets. I think Donnie Freeman WOULD be an awesome get. But unfortunately where we stand currently is very very bad. Diallo Wilkins Kam McBride Moreno Is NOT a top 40 roster preseason and seems like the most likely scenario as of this very moment. The standard in which Kentucky basketball is held is not being met. If you land Freeman, Stokes etc or players near that tier this can change and it is early, but those of you who continuously tell those of us who care and are concerned we are crazy are an issue. The standard cannot be lowered just because some of you in this fanbase cannot comprehend being realistic about the current situation.

@TristanUda I think you'll see more than slight. Wilkins got going later in the season (which tracks for a freshman) and both had good catch and shoot numbers and *should* benefit from each other and hopefully shooting a higher % of 3s as catch and shoot.

It is expected that Diallo and Wilkins will see a slight jump in percentage, but their game is getting to the basket. The threat of them driving to the basket will leave shooters open, but you have to have shooters to give them the spacing to work.

With Kentucky adding transfers Zoom Diallo (31.5%) and Alex Wilkins (32.8%), and assuming Malachi Moreno (0%) withdraws from the NBA Draft, shooting has to be a priority as the rest of the roster comes together. Kam Williams is there, but he’s currently the only proven 35%+ shooter on the team.

I disagree! After the last two years it would have been extremely stubborn not to have two point guards. Better for Pope to have to figure that out than get fired because of point guard injuries. He couldnt look himself in the mirror if that happened x3.
