True story: At my first big crime conference as a new PhD, I was nervous and did not know anyone. A woman sat down next to me and immediately started talking about how she'd been up all night watching "Naked and Afraid." I knew I'd found my conference buddy. @AmandaYAgan and I have been friends ever since!

Examiner designs or "judge IVs" use variation in the leniency of decision-makers for causal identification.
Are there good public data sets with this setup? I'm thinking of starting some methods research here, and public data really helps.

This super thorough paper uses multiple natural experiments + incredible administrative data to measure how sealing criminal records affects employment (FCRA rules and Clean Slate policies). Punchline: if you care about this issue, it's probably time to look for other options.
