Strengthening Food Security in Qansaxdhere. At AMARD, we believe that providing families with the means to access nutritious food is the first step toward long-term stability. In partnership with the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) and the Food Security Cluster, we are proud to share the impact of our latest FSL (Food Security and Livelihoods) interventions in the Bay region. By putting resources directly into the hands of those who need them most, we are helping displaced families regain their dignity and improve their nutritional intake. Our FSL Highlights: 💰#Direct Cash Transfers: Providing $55 per month for three consecutive months, allowing families to prioritize their most urgent food needs. 🛠️ #Livelihood Support Tools: Distributing essential equipment like wheelbarrows, shovels, and jerrycans to help maintain a productive and healthy living environment. 🧠#Capacity Building: Conducting community sessions on best practices for health and nutrition to ensure the sustainability of our support. Drought is pushing vulnerable families in South West State to the brink. Following our rapid assessment, AMARD found displaced communities—particularly minorities and marginalized groups—facing acute shortages of safe water and basic services.

Today South West State Bi-Weekly Coordination meeting led by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of SWS released press release. These are highlights of the Press Release: 🚨 Ministry urges the Federal Government to issue a National Drought Disaster Declaration to scale up humanitarian response and highlight the crisis to Somali people, donors, UN agencies, and NGO communities. 🌍 Meeting recommends on the UN SRSG James Swan & DSRSG/HC @GConway_UN to advocate for Somalia’s inclusion as a top humanitarian priority in 2026 within the UN System and among international partners. @UNTMIS_ 🙏 Appreciation goes to the #Donors of Somalia Humanitarian Fund @shf_somalia for its timely $20M contribution, playing a vital role in alleviating the crisis and strengthening ongoing support for vulnerable populations in five districts of South West State. #Solidarity @SoDMA_Somalia @NGOConsortium

🚰 Emergency Water Response in Baidoa – Standing with the Drought Affected Communities. In Baidoa, the rains have failed—and with them, the lifeline for thousands. The drought has left internally displaced families without access to water, food, or shelter. Every day, new arrivals—many from minority and marginalized communities—seek refuge in overcrowded IDP sites, their voices echoing a desperate cry for survival. Though AMARD has no active WASH project in Baidoa, we could not stand by. From January 20–21, our team mobilized internal resources to deliver emergency water trucking to five IDP sites, reaching an estimated 2,700 displaced individuals. This voluntary intervention was driven by solidarity, not funding—because humanity must come first. 💧 Water is life. Dignity is non-negotiable. We call on partners, donors, and fellow responders to join us in scaling lifesaving support. The needs are urgent. In an exciting opportunity this week, we were able to take part in the second annual East African Youth Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), held by The East African Youth Network (EAYN) in Kampala, Uganda 🇺🇬. The Agency for Minority Rights and Development (AMARD) was honored to have participated as well as to lead a panel on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in East Africa, highlighting youth-led prevention strategies, survivor centered approaches, the impact of advocacy, the necessity of including boys in SGBV conversations, and the need for more cooperative work at the regional level. The conference goals included: ✅ To expedite passage of the EAC SRHR bill at the regional level ✅ To popularize and implement the SRHR recommendations contained in the EAC Youth Policy 2025 Bringing together many passionate young leaders and advocates from across the region, the meeting provided an environment for sharing ideas for solutions, strengthening partnerships, and amplifying youth voices on issues related to SRHR. Inspired by the many perspectives presented, AMARD remains dedicated to the advancement of youth-led activities; the promotion of youth rights; and the creation of more healthy, equitable societies across all of East Africa.
