Wow. These comments are illuminating. I’ve had it done twice and it was no big deal FOR ME. It was a pinch and uncomfortable but nothing crazy at all. I have zero doubt that women reporting pain experienced it, of course, but I do wonder if there is data about this. Is it generally painful for some women and not others? (Having said that, if it’s this painful for even SOME women, pain relief should be offered, this is more my curiosity since my experience was so different than so many commenters).

I have endometriosis, and I’ve been stabbed. This procedure was still the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, and I ached for days afterwards. Performing a cervical biopsy with no pain management should cost a doctor his license to practice.
