@OP1KER @entomemeology that was how I read it all along! I didn't realize there was any other reading... I thought it was like a more optimistic Gift of the Magi

Windows Vista was heavily criticized, but looking back, the Aero glass design was beautiful. Was it actually bad or just ahead of its time?

@Waffl3x I agree, in my own GDScript code I do Go-style errors-as-values, but I would personally prefer exceptions so I can still deal with "unhandled" errors and place error boundaries at predictable places maybe in next version...

@amedved1995 I plan on making a jitted language in the future so I would probably use that. To your point about silently letting errors pass, absolutely not, skill issue, please do better

@Waffl3x non-optimizing compilers are also much less likely to have optimization bugs! especially for very dynamic languages where speculative opt and deopt are things you need to worry about (sincerely, someone who wrote an optimizing compiler...)

@amedved1995 It will never cease to amaze me that people use simpler non-optimizing languages because they are easier. You end up with cases where you say "yeah it sucks but non optimizing interpreter"

@Waffl3x I'd never want to build medical equipment or self-driving cars in GDScript but it's not a horrendous language to write games in... and if you really don't like it then Godot has a ton of language bindings

@Waffl3x I also think it's mostly "fine" as long as you make a point of initializing all the fields before you do anything with the object... also GD doesn't really have good error handling primitives to encourage devs to let errors silently pass (which is often desirable in game dev)

@wormdiggindirt @bloodylikeab0dy @evilclothmother it was originally meant as a joke, but it came across as insensitive! even if they sound silly to my ears as names, they're perfectly legitimate names and deserve to be respected. I'll respect them. I'm sorry I made further commentary in this other reply x.com/amedved1995/st…

@AtriumCadaverum @bloodylikeab0dy @evilclothmother you're right... this was originally meant as a joke but it came across as insensitive... I think they sound "silly" as an English speaker (there is some research into what "silly" sounding words are) but they're perfectly legitimate names and deserve respect (1/)

At this point "Zhang et al." feels less like a citation and more like a universal law of physics 😭 No matter what idea you think is revolutionary, somewhere there’s already a 47-page PDF, confusing equations, 12 co-authors and a benchmark dataset proving they explored it in 2019.

What fascinates me about academic writing is that, no matter your major, Zhang et al. has probably already thought of it and written a paper on it.

@bienpnn the boundary between parent and child browser process (in Firefox and Chrome anyway, despite being entirely different projects they have similar arch) is a huge blob of JS code that's much easier to poke at logic bugs in than try to find a memory corruption bug in!
