There seems to be much larger numbers of magpie geese in Darwin now than this time last year, although I don’t have any quantitative data to support this. If true, possible explanations include a very dry October & a failed mango season (mangoes have become part of their diet).

As many wild geese worldwide, tropical Magpie Geese tune in on the opportunities offered by agricultural fields in northern Australia, leaving farmers unimpressed. Fortunately, regionally coordinated habitat management may mitigate goose damage. doi.org/10.1002/jwmg.2…
