Wind and solar generated more electricity than fossil fuels in Greece over the last 12 months 🇬🇷 - Annual wind and solar output has doubled over the last 5 years - Fossil generation has been structurally declining - Total electricity output at the highest levels in over a decade

@DavidOsmond8 Thanks! We're still refining the web interface to it before we release it - including being able to filter. We'll eventually update the CSV export - for now, you can get the same data from the API. You familiar with it?

On the Open Electricity website you can preview upcoming features with the lab icon selector in the bottom-right. There may be a new preview feature there now 🤫 👀

@AukeHoekstra I agree with this but feel that the existing grid operators will not transition easily. They see signals in hours not milliseconds. I think they will actively resist handing over this control.

At the same time your home, neighborhood, city, and country will acquire energy autonomy, with the grid as the backup system. For most of us it still delivers most of our energy, but we stabilize it locally, solving most grid congestion and becoming immune to blackouts. /FIN

Many people think solar and wind won't be able to keep the grid stable because they lack "inertia". I think solar, wind and batteries will do a BETTER job and I think you can explain it thus: - the old grid is a record player - the new grid a digital player 🧵

@JigarShahDC Which countries have done well in this area? Most seem stuck in the old models.

@g__j Do you find that there is the granularity of information available at neighborhood level or substation level?

The deal between Octopus & Government on Bulb gave the Chancellor a welcome £2.3bn boost, according to the OBR's Fiscal Outlook (p103) It showed how govt & business can work together for the good of the country (despite entitled incumbents dragging through the courts for 2 years)

@IrishEnergyBot Is there any curtailment data available? It would be interesting to see.

Wind + hydro + biomass/waste generation reached almost 90% of demand yesterday evening. Not unheard of for August but when some more solar data is released we'll probably see this was ~3.75GW of renewable generation and that yesterday was a "top 3" August day for MW/output 🏅

Australia (and South Australia) is another level. From negative in the afternoon to + 16,600 $/MWh in the same day. Wow, that's a nice spread.

@JomauxJulien I have been reading about the NY VDER value stack metric. It seems to look at some of these points.

If we want to get serious about building a lot of wind and solar, we also have to get serious about volatility. Stop counting kWh and start counting €€. And let people be impacted by volatility. (6/6)

Electricity is the most volatile commodity. It can be worth nothing at 11 AM, negative at 1 PM, and hundreds of € at 7 PM. Yet, we continue to use metrics that add kWh and not € (LCOE, imports/exports balance, etc.). And most people are paying a fixed rate. (1/6)

LCOE should only be used for same technology (PV with PV, wind with wind, gas with gas, etc.) For comparing different tech, it is as useful as the "cost per m2" to compare my tent and my house.

So the cast is finally off (we took it off friday) But now Sky Lou won’t put ANY weight on her leg. Tried to get her to do just the simplest of things. But she is reverting to crawling, and not putting weight on the leg. She is not in pain when at rest, but complains about pain in the heel when putting weight on the leg. So here is my dilemma, ER wait times today are long, it’s Sunday. I could probably get to see her doctor tomorrow. But tomorrow I also have the 1.5 year checkup on Poppy at a different medical center. Anyone here with experience with broken limbs on kids, and can provide a perspective?

@drvolts I am working to convince NZ to do better in this area. We have 100% zero carbon electricity in the South Island but this all gets squashed into an annual "pretty clean" emission rate which helps no-one.
