@1goodtern I know many smart people who know that Covid causes heart attacks, strokes, diabetes etc etc etc. They don’t think that outweighs their desire to socialise indoors with food and their wish not to mask. They literally do the calculation and think it’s worth it.

It’s never too late to start masking again. Vaxx & relax and herd immunity aren’t working. I know too many people with Long Covid who got it after being told by governments and public health it was time to take off their masks. 🧵/1

@Playmaker708 is there a reason not to? given that some, but few people at regionals/internats (from streams we've seen through the year) seem to wear masks to prevent Long COVID, but ppl can understand risk assessment of using percentage moves, we thought it might be a more useful framing.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but new strain of bird flu is probably about to hit the world. This strain is genetically very similar to the 1918 flu pandemic, that killed over 20 million people. Canadian teenager with it is in the ICU. Estimated mortality back then was ~50%.

@45mice Yeah, the main thing stopping us from freaking out right now from looking at wastewater etc is that it can't both be spreading super high -and- have the same mortality rate. For now. So that's good.

Fr, I harp on leftists refusing to mask because, for all everyone loves to talk about the overall rightward shift we've seen since 2020, no one wants to talk about how far the left itself has lurched. And people buying into Joe Biden's Covid narrative is a huge part of that.

the CDC went from saying there's no risk of H5N1 human transmission to listing the symptoms. I'd start listening to disabled people about pandemics yesterday if I were you.
