This is for anyone tchg algebra or supporting teachers who do. On Tue Sep 4 we launch our new algebra lessons, infused with a mindset approach - introducing algebra visually (instead of procedurally). Students will love these algebraic ideas! All free on youcubed.org

@MsLoneyMath Does anyone have links to journal or research articles? I have seen the TVO video and the tap into teen minds for teachers but need research or journal articles. Thanks!

I have a principal who is looking for articles to support teachers spiralling in math (to help assuage parental concern) Can anyone help me out? #MTBOS #Iteachmath

I had my students choose icons to add to their course outline; 1 per overall expectation. We learned to search Google for "___ icon" right in the doc. Also made great use of thenounproject.com which is worth checking out!! #bfc530 twitter.com/wheeler_laura/…

We're creating visual overviews of the #BTT1O course this week. Each student chose icons to add to their copy of the expectations. I made an icon only version to put up as a poster.

@AlexOverwijk Thanks @AlexOverwijk. Really appreciate your time! Been thinking about doing this. We do vnps and vrg every day, I just am still not quite comfortable in trusting my observations. I think if I find a way to document and have a way to go back to my reflections I will feel better

@amgilbert21 Could check their answers. I do a lot of smiling and walking away. In fairness there is ton of S learning about what they don’t know and what they do know. Gives them a great focus for the individual test. I definitely don’t feel like S’s waste a review period like I used to.

@AlexOverwijk Do you evaluate this? Or is it more observation? Do record your observations? Do you give all questions up front or as they progress? Do you check their work/tell them if they are correct? Or do you literally just watch and listen and smile?

@amgilbert21 Yes to review day. All period long. 10 different tests. Enough questions to keep them busy for an entire period-they can be autonomous if they finish early. The sorts of questions I would put on review or a test.
