I am glad to share that Gujarat is set to take a historic leap in the field of Artificial Intelligence with the establishment of the Indian AI Research Organization (IAIRO) at GIFT City, to be operational from 1 January 2026. With an estimated outlay of ₹300 crore over the first five years, IAIRO will be set up on a PPP model with equal participation of the Government of Gujarat, Government of India and industry partners. Leading pharma companies, through the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), have joined as anchor private partners. IAIRO will function as a Special Purpose Vehicle and a national, non-profit, multidisciplinary AI research hub, focusing on advanced AI research and development, AI-driven products and solutions, capacity building and policy-oriented research, while fostering deep collaboration between academia, startups, industry and government. The organization will operate on a hybrid compute model, combining on-premise GPU infrastructure with national platforms such as the IndiaAI Cloud, enabling scalable, secure and cutting-edge AI innovation. Artificial Intelligence is one of the most transformative technologies of our times—reshaping healthcare, education, agriculture and the economy. Under the visionary guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi ji, Gujarat is proud to be at the forefront of India’s AI journey, becoming the first state in the country to establish such an institution on a PPP model. This initiative will strengthen India’s AI ecosystem, prepare future-ready human capital, and further position Gujarat as a global hub for emerging technologies and innovation.
