I get the sentiment, but this take is a little too convenient.
Success isn’t the only measure of wisdom. Many parents didn’t fail because they were clueless; they failed because of limited opportunities, different economic realities, bad timing, or sacrifices made for their children. Dismissing their advice outright assumes the playing field was the same. It wasn’t.
You don’t have to follow every instruction they give, but completely discrediting them because they didn’t “make it” ignores context, resilience, and lived experience. Sometimes their greatest value isn’t in what worked for them but in what didn’t.
Growth is filtering advice, not deleting its source.
