I just finished preparing my presentation for the University of Houston–Clear Lake STEM Conference on March 28, 2026! My session, “Making Sense of Lightning: Supporting NGSS Sensemaking Through Phenomena,” explores how a lightning phenomenon can spark student questioning, modeling, and evidence-based explanations using the MOSAIC framework. Educators will experience strategies such as Notice & Wonder, related phenomena, gallery walks, and model revision to support science sensemaking. ⚡ When students try to figure out why lightning happens, they’re doing real science. #STEMEducation #NGSS #ScienceTeaching #PhenomenaBasedLearning
