France is about to release its 2025 budget, which will include a terrible surprise change: the 2 solidarity taxes (on ✈️ & 💸transactions) won't be 'solidaire' any longer! After 2 decades of leadership on innovative development & climate funding, France doing a total u turn?

Great round up and analysis of what happened - or maybe more what didn’t happen - at this year’s #G7 👇
Luca Bergamaschi@lucaberga

Another #G7 Summit close the curtains Final communiqué👉 g7italy.it/wp-content/upl… Despite great diplomatic efforts by Italy to bring most G20 leaders around the table and a promising menu, we are left with a rather empty stomach on #climate and #finance. A missed opportunity 🧵

When I hear men worshipping guns and talking about how there’s nothing that will stop them from defending their family, my mind goes to Naaman in the Bible. Do you remember Naaman? He was a great military leader, and he also had leprosy. 1/

@MSuzman on @WorldBank IDA , why it's so important and why it should be at the heart of #COP28 discussions too. 'For many [of the world's poorest countries], it’s the only reliable source of external funds for development.' ft.com/content/d574e5…

It took @jriver_a and team literally hundreds and hundreds of hours to unpack this. I’m incredibly thrilled to have decent, open access climate fin data but it just shouldn’t be that hard. Good transparency builds trust and that is something climate negotiations definitely need.

Must read for everyone interested in #climatefinance. Particularly as many countries prepare to celebrate (read pat themselves on the back) at #COP28 and to start critical negotiations on a post-2025 climate finance target. Targets w/out decent data aren’t going to mean much 👎
Joseph Kraus@hurrayforfacts

REVEALED: Rich countries are inflating how much they’re spending to help climate vulnerable countries. By a LOT. Hundreds of billion$ in climate promises over the past decade never materialized or were spent on things unrelated to climate. And we have the receipts. A 🧵

The Cameron return puts the foreign, commonwealth and development office in the hands of a pairing that gave the conservatives a serious development presence for the first time You could disagree about approach, but Cameron and Mitchell really cared about it. It is showing again

I've been at #AnnualMeetings for the last week and a lot has happened - but maybe not as much as we need. Here's my top 10 on reflections on this week and what that means for the next 6 months and beyond. 1. The @WorldBank has a new President and you can tell...
