OPEN RECORDS LIFE: One of our board members is right this minute in an FOI hearing with a state department of health, which is claiming — in a recorded meeting — that they can’t give us the birth index for that state because their database is stored in FoxPro and might crash. 😂

@hankgreen My mom is *horrible* with language around anything medical. When she had colon cancer, she couldn’t tell you what was in her chemo. For her, it wasn’t lack of interest; learning their names would have been one more thing to stress over.

I keep talking with other cancer patients at my cancer center and I'm often astounded by what seems like a lack of interest in their own cancer. I talked to a guy today who had non-hodgkin's lymphoma and asked what kind and he DIDN'T KNOW!

However, I still find the Historical Images section to be a hot mess. It’s nearly impossible to navigate it cleanly. Can’t wait for images to get integrated with the catalog again.

~50 GB of shiny genealogy data on a tiny USB drive just showed up on our doorstep today! 🥳 It's two different record sets, scanned from microfilms! Acquired under FOIL request from the NYC Municipal Archives (@nycrecords), then digitized by the awesome people at @FamilySearch.

@SimpleLivinGene It's a bit more generous than that. Copyright in the US has a rolling date for public domain. We're now up to works published bef 1928. Also, works that were published 1928-1977 are in the public domain if they were published without a copyright notice. guides.library.cornell.edu/copyright/publ…
